Tonight:
2007 Florian Beck-Hartweg Pinto Gris GC “Frankstein” (mine, and one of my favs!)
1999 Ch. Malescot St Exupery Margaux (enjoying this a I type)
gave a couple of people a taste yesterday and they were blown away… it’s such a fun grape! white pepper, stawberries… great picnic, bbq wine, though I tire of the “oh, it’s like gamay” comments I invariable get. why there’s not more love for this grape is beyond me.
“why there’s not more love for this grape is beyond me.”
POS from our Grignolino section:
Legendary Napa Cabernet Producer Joe Heitz had a VERY interesting answer to “What’s your favorite wine?”: “Grignolino!” Find out why TONIGHT! BIG flavor but dances on your palate like Ali. Our notes from VinItaly: “Yeah Baybeeeee! Fresh, fresh, fresh and so drinkable. Perfect color (it’s either a light red or a dark Rosato) and nice packaging, this will KILL with Asian / Mexican food…grab it!”. Serve chilled with spicy foods or fish dishes on warmer days, at cool room temp with pork, chicken or lighter meats on cooler days.
Hmm… lotta stuff…
2006 Seven Stones - AWESOME
2006 EMH Black Cat
2004 Aubert
Camille Saves Champagne
Some other and forgettable and astonishingly bad crap
Nice! So this last year they held “Grignolino Prima” to rival the much heralded “Nebbiolo Prima”… 9 wines tasted, my boy placed second by at least one blogger’s account. I like to kid him that my customers are clamoring for a large format bottle… 3L Grigno-effen-lino anyone??
2009 Pierre Gonon St. Joseph Blanc Les Oliviers
1999 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir Laurène
N.V. Roederer Estate Brut Rosé Anderson Valley
2005 François Chidaine Vouvray Sec Clos Baudoin
1997 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée
2004 La Loggia Barolo (TJs I believe, brought by a guest and not as bad as I feared)
2006 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling Beerenauslese
2007 Argyle Brut
2003 E. Guigal St. Joseph (pretty much DOA unfortunately)
Tonight had a 2007 Fourrier GevChamb VV - it’s from BURG-UND-Y Carrie…
Plan to open a mag of 95 Seavey for some friends tomorrow unless there are any objections (I.e. Anyone know how this is drinking?)
Prolly need to throw in a Chablis too.
Friday:
2005 Domaine Chandon Chardonnay - figured it was over the hill, I was right
2008 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough - very nice
Saturday at the wine store:
2005 Lyrique Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard - my bottle, outstanding
2008 Vallformosa Penedès - 60%Syrah, 40% Tempranillo - very distinct jalapeno element
2008 Cardwell Hill Cellars Pinot Noir Reserve Estate Bottled - nice, but very young
Saturday at home:
2010 Villa Creek Pink - nice, just a hint of sweetness
2003 Clos Pegase Pegase Circle Reserve Claret - prime time right now
