I have a bunch of sungold’s, black Krim, yellow cherry, spun sugar tomatoes. Zucchini and Peter Pan squash. Japanese cucumbers. Padron, Serrano, habanero, red hot, and scotch bonnet peppers. Keffir lime. Meyer lemon. Strawberries. Thyme. Sweet peas. Purple carrots. French radishes.
I’m nervous about being out of town a lot as things get ripe. I’m hoping it all goes okay.
Tomatoes: Cherokee Green, Cherokee Red, and Juliet Grape (will add some more within the next week or two… want to stagger them.) Butternut and Pattypan squashes. Poblano peppers. Shallots. Asparagus. Fennel. Oregano. Apple Mint. Chives. Sweet Basil. Arugula. Royal Burgundy Beans. I don’t think the beans and arugula will make it. It’s just too hot here and it’s only been mid-high 80s. The 100±degree days are coming soon.
Didn’t have time for a winter garden and just planted the summer garden two weeks ago. Newbie has MUCH to learn! I’m just happy with a whole bunch of cherry tomatoes that my toddler picks and eats off the vine!
Tomatoes, Basil, Cilantro, Oregano and Kale I have very little space due to shade trees, maybe 10-15 square feet plus two pots, so it’s not much. I tried putting stuff on a small plot dug in the front law once, but everything seemed to get taken by others. This year I intend to put rat traps around the tomatoes and get the F’in’ chipmunks that take one bite out of each one and then leave them to rot. If anyone has a more humane idea, I will consider it.
18 various tomato plants (gotta get a lot for Baconfest), couple cucumber plants, and tons of herbs. The sage is going crazy this year. So is the basil.
Away from the garden but outside the door: peaches! A volunteer seeded and rooted there a couple of years ago, and that thing is huge! Right now you can smell the peaches when you open the door. The trick is to let them hang until ripe enough to eat, but most years the birds are vying for them. It is a balancing act.
Figs are fat and lovely with first crop ready to come in within days. Same thing with the birds, but the figs are very plentiful.
I have one tomato plant that i’m sure is a mutant. It’s probably 3x the size of all the other plants right now. The off shoot stems are bigger than some of the other plants. I’m a little tempted to just cut off a stem as it’s way too big for the area.
Thought I’d resurrect this thread and see what people are growing. This year we’re growing carrots (Bolero is the variety…easily the best carrots we’ve grown), pole beans, onions, radishes, beets, snow peas, sugar snap peas, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, three varieties of tomato, watermelon, Empire apple, and Honeycrisp apple.
With all those little things started, Seattle just now needs some HEAT!!! It’s been so cool here the last few weeks…all the little plants are just stalled.
I have only successfully gotten yellow-fleshed watermelon and one tobacco plant surviving so far in the garden. I have a cherry tomato plant in a pot.
I lost an entire tray of 50 assorted seedlings this year. I have been deliberating whether or not to start the process of trying, at least to get some chile peppers growing this summer.
If it weren’t for the scourge of the Gopher I would have a much larger garden since everythig has to be protected. Plus, with our new pup, the garden needs to be protected above ground as well.
As usual we have about a dozen tomato plants ranging from slicing to cherry. The starts in the first picture are Sunflowers. Got a late start on these but have plenty of time for them to bloom only to be eaten by the rats with furry tails aka squirrels.
