What wine to serve with BBQ?

Zin works as long as the spice level isn’t too high, otherwise it’s just mouth on fire and hard to appreciate the food and the wine.

The surprise winner for me is actually rose, and something with a little body like a Tavel can be absolutely sublime with barbecue. It’s unexpected, but try it. Rose is an awesome food wine, in general, and doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

If you’re going Carolina bbq with a lot of vinegar, then I’d also suggest pairing a white wine, and getting something higher in acid like Riesling to match the acid in the food. A little residual sugar can actually be really nice with bbq too.

My parents were from the southwest corner of Iowa, and always referred to St. Joe as the big city.

I’ve liked pairing Brunello with bbq (especially pork), if your Italians include any.

If only you had some riesling in your cellar it would be a perfect match…

100% - this is a great pairing with ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. Nice with burnt ends, too, and sliced brisket if not crazy with the black pepper.

From my cellar definitely a Cotes-du-Rhone (app.2009) or Chateauneuf-du-Pape (app. 2000/01).

No-go is Ros’e … (boring, even a Mordoree)

I love a good Syrah with my brisket. Sometimes a Zin. But based on what you have in your cellar, my choice would be Italian.

You read the OP!

Yeah, I like to do that. It’s usually kinda important.

How about one of those Huets? Moelleux if you got it, otherwise Demi-sec

Ok, we started with an 08 Schaefer GD kabinett and then moved onto IPA once we started actually eating the BBQ.

Chave w/ brisket and beef ribs

Even Safeway has some good zins. 2019 was a spectacular year.

Berserker perfection!

I think of Italian I’d go for Barbera d’Alba.

If any of your Burgundy happened to be Hearty, that would have worked well.
