Great Saturday morning listen
Love I’ll Drink to That, but I would have had the wine shipped to me rather than drive 1500 miles.
I used to listen to these a lot commuting to and from work every day (also did a lot of the Great Courses). Two of my favorite episodes are his interview of David Schildknecht and his one of Peter Weygandt.
I miss Grape Radio.
Really enjoying the blind tasting series on the GuildSomm podcast.
It’s well-produced, I’ve learned a lot, and it has upped my game considerably.
Have been really enjoying The Wine Makers Podcast and more recently Doug Shafer’s podcast. Recently, listened to Doug’s interview with John Kongsgaard and also Michael Silacci (Opus One) and its fascinating to hear the history and development of the wine industry in the 1980s and early 1990’s in California which dovetails with my introduction and fascination to wine.
Roadside Terroir just released the first episode of season 3! Also if you haven’t gone through this yet, season 2 is an amazing take on modern Burgundy. I’ve really enjoyed this podcast and listened to season 2 several times since it’s release in 2023.
The bar was set so high by Grape Radio…oh, how I wish they would start that up again, or at least post access to all their many wonderful old programs…I’d love to listen to them again!
In the category of “oldie but goodie” → listened to Sashi Moorman on I’ll Drink to That from 2015. Still relevant and enjoyable by my standards!
Anyone know eat happened to this podcast. I absolutely love it but output has slowed/stopped. Any chance it’s coming back?
Levi sometimes posts here. My recollection is that he said he didn’t find it financially sustainable.
I see. I can imagine that is the case. The episodes are very thoroughly researched. I’m sure they take a ton of time to put together. A shame though, because I really love them.
There is a deep back catalog that you can chew through while you wait for the new episodes
could we have a subscription group for Levie podcasts/
Skurnick recently started an interview series that has been interesting (and not an outright sales pitch).
True! Not sure if I’ve listened to every single one, but almost!
Some real time capsule character to some of the older episodes - two guests in 2012-13 eps I listened to recently made offhand comments about “amazing wines you don’t need to shell out much for” and the examples were Gonon and Chateau de Tours respectively “for like $25 bucks.”
Ha! You beat me to it! I hadn’t read this thread as I’ve never listened to a wine-related podcast, but I am a fan of the Rest is History - and I discovered this episode yesterday. I was about to post here about it when I realised you already had. I really enjoyed it - there are one or two things I’d never heard of before, like the role wine played in the conquest of Gaul. As usual, it’s light-hearted, lots of banter - they don’t take themselves very seriously, so right up my street and a good way of spending an hour or so walking or driving.
That story struck me as exaggerated, but I’m a natural skeptic.
I did love the Pliny quote at the beginning though - history’s first recorded wine snob!
Yes, absolutely- Pliny reminded me of so many people! As for Gaul, you’re probably right, but I did have a laugh! I’m surprised they chose the Judgement of Paris over Robert Parker though.
