What to do with styro?

TGIF. Every Fall, and Spring, brings new shippers. What do you all do with them?

I usually donate them, 6-15 at a time to a worthy local retailer, but it takes an effort, which means they stack up.

Do they have a monetary value? How much do they add to shipping charges? Should they include a refundable deposit? Years ago, I recall Winex charging and refunding, but loading them up and driving them 125 miles seems pointless. I like to keep 4 or 5, just in case.

What do y’all think?

Thanks.

I’m happy to mail you FedEx Labels and have you send them to me at our store.

I am going to save a few for shipping wine to daughter in Arizona and myself and will take the rest with me to Dundee and surrounds and donate to my winemaker friends.

Love your avatar, Jeff!

We just save them up and then when we have enough, drive them over to Wine Ex and drop them off. With just one use, many of them seem fine to be used again.

I think styrofoam decomposes extremely slowly, so I don’t like throwing them out in the garbage. I give them to a large wine store near me, and they’re happy to get them, though I don’t think they ship much, if at all. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

I’ll take you up on that, send me 20 labels. pm sent.

Just an FYI to those in LA - for the styro inserts that are no longer usable, you can recycle them in your blue bins along with all your other recyclables. I wouldn’t be surprised if styro recycling is available in other communities as well.

For those in the greater Seattle area, V & G Styro recycle in Renton. It is behind IKEA. There is also a bin for recycling styro at the IKEA.
