What producers get way too much attention in WB?

Just a twist on the other thread about naming producers that don’t get enough attention in WB.

I like their wines, but Baudry and Gonon seem to get mentioned at every No. Rhone or Loire posts.

Anthill Farms. pileon OK I said it. Not based on a broad sampling but it just didn’t do a whole lot for me. Not that i didn’t want to like it. Just one if those things I don’t get.

Easy one: Burgundy

Specific producer(s), Rick?

Well, I’d perhaps narrow that down to DRC, Leroy, maybe Rousseau and a few others – producers whose wines are so expensive or hard to find that only a tiny minority of even this board’s well-heeled members can drink them often enough to have anything useful to say, and very few of the rest of us will have little if anything to add.

[Not trying to stifle discussion of anything; if even one of us here finds something interesting, that’s reason enough to post.]

My comment was a little jab at the burgundy bias of this board, sort of like the east coast bias at ESPN.

This. Without question.

Niiiiiice.

In all honesty, I do not think any one producer receives undue attention. It seems to be something usually bestowed for a reason, sometimes even for the wrong reason. If there is one producer that gets a tremendous buzz that is maybe just a bit disproportionally so, it could be SQN. I think more bottles are stored away than ever get opened, even with a miniscule production. Bigger collectors realm than a drinkers. Just sayin’.

I thought about this on my 30 minute commute. Other than the few noted above (DRC, Leroy, Fourrier, etc) and the Maison Ilan/Bouchard Montrachet debacles, there is a wide variety and balance of Burgundy producers discussed on this board. I don’t know if it has more to do with the breadth of experience of board members or the patchwork terroir that is the region.

The bias is certainly more noticeable to me as I have started to pay more attention to other regions in the interest of saving my marriage and kid’s college savings.

Amen to that.

Pretty much anything beginning with a Burgundy and ending with a Volnay.

Just did a search and since 2009 there have been 12,500 posts with the name Rhys. Thats a lot of attention - about 7 posts per day and strongly biased towards the plus side!

Oh yeah, how could we forget about board darling Rhys?!

Coravin.

Oh yeah, and:
SQN
DRC

For a good reason…

There are definitely some board darlings that get a disproportionate amount of buzz and attention, but I’m reluctant to say “too much attention,” since I don’t really see the harm, even the ones that I may be less fond of personally. This board doesn’t have so much activity that one more Rhys thread hurts the chance to discuss other producers and other topics.

The one thing that really got way too much attention on here for a long time was Robert Parker, but that seems not be a recurring annoyance anymore.
