The 21 and 19 vintages didn’t taste nearly as tart and acidic…
I expeect potable wine. I’ve had this cuvee 7 times now (different vintages), and it has been bad in different ways every time, including mouse. It’s not a climate or ripeness issue. There are wines I find too green because of the way they are made (Domaine de la Cote, for example), but the issue here is not the climate.

It wasn’t too tart/acidic, it tasted and smelled like pickle juice. It’s a flaw, not a lack of ripeness.
sounds like you need to try a beau paysage

I’ve had Beau Paysage. This is not a comment about Japanese wine generally, it’s a comment about Takahiko’s pinot.
sure, some cult wine lives up to the hype and others do not. i think there is better hokkaido pinot than takahiko as well.

That’s a very low standard. Beau Paysage is OK; one of my friends is convinced their cab franc is the way to go.
for me the merlot is the best wine, however it tastes very little like a classic merlot. also, try board memeber bruce gutlove’s coco farm pinot noir if you can.

I’ve not had the merlot, will look for it next time I’m in Japan. Japan has so much fun old Burgundy and new Champagne that I find chasing new Japanese producers somewhat counterproductive when I’m there
- 2018 COS Vittoria Delle Fontane - Italy, Sicily, Vittoria DOC (3.2.2025)
Not a shy nose here with tons of herbs and bouillon swarming from the glass. Notably spicy too with a smoky and earthy feel and some VA, naturally. One thing that doesn’t jump out though is fruit, at least not the ripe kind. On the palate it has gained some weight over a couple of hours, having been on the light side early on. Sports a low 12.5% ABV which is good for one’s sleep quality but I wonder if just a pinch more of ripeness would be beneficial here. Still, having been breathing some this has developed a good deal of textural richness and weight and is plenty appealing in that sense. A different vintage might produce a more intriguing fruit expression, which would elevate this to a level I have come to expect from COS’s reds. Even then, this is a perfectly decent Monday-night tipple.

Octavin Tamino 2021, despite selling this I couldn’t find much about it. The last release seems to be 2009 and sous voile.
This has the colour of aperol spritz, a blend of Savagnin, Chardonnay and Poulsard from Mailloche. Slight spritz, a little tannin, tastes of yellow fruits, rust and something unusual. A slight tang but no real oxidation.
Clos Bateau Jou Jou, third time with this and the worst showing. Very light, would maybe guess white blind. A bit of mouse. Ok for a Tuesday. Just. Others were much better.
Had this at a wine bar list night. Actually quite impressive. Probably my favorite wine from Wolber so far.
Love Basti! I will look out for that!
2023 Octavin Betty Bulles. Half Chenin and Vermentino, pet nat, very clean, herbal citrus and a bit of yeast, fine Bulles. A good showing
(I sell this)
For better or worse it seems that the hype-train has slowed and the cuvees are more readily available this year —
I see many good reviews of the new vintage(s)
2023 was also a high yielding vintage, but yes, let’s hope the main reason is less hype
I picked up a few more bottles of the guyot wines; anyone have the domaine wines lately?
2021 Jeremy Recchione Aligote, lemon parfait, a little heavy today, some just green oak. Not a great showing.
(We sell Jeremy’s wines but not the 21s)
His reds are pretty good, his whites are, let’s say, a work in progress.
