I opened up a 2021 Canary Hill last night to go with some Flannery ribeye from berserker day, and wow! So light and bright, perfect balance. Really nice red fruits, almost candied cherry, and some floral (but not overly perfumed) notes. A touch of spice, enough tannin to stand up to food, and a strong throughline of acidity that holds everything together. Loved it, can only imagine how it will develop through the years.
My wife and I had a chance to drop by the winery today to pick up BD16 goodies and taste several Pinot Noir with Jonathan. 2023 Mirabai and Maresh Luminal followed by the unreleased 2023 Durant, Canary Hill, and Carter. These struck me as an outstanding year for KF PN.
Opened a mag of 21 Mirabai for what reason I do not recall but I do remember the bottle, cherry, Oregon strawberry, hints of lack tea and herbs. Creamy in a good way and bright acidity. Just delicious! Really should buy more mags of these. @kelleyfox WTH no mags of these on the website ![]()
2022 Golden Crown Sparrow Pinot Noir from the BD16 deal. I decided to check in on this since I went pretty deep. Great material here with tons of upside. It was tighter than I expected - more so than the 2023 PNs that I just tasted at the winery. I won’t open another one for at least several years.
Thanks Chris, good to know! Anyone have recent experience with on the other '22s that were sold on BD16? I got the Maresh Sparrows, Canary Hill, and Weber PNs. I’m going to try one of each regardless, but curious about whether these need super long decants, or best on night two, etc. Sounds from Chris’s experience like the Maresh Sparrows is a candidate for “take a small glass, leave overnight, enjoy on night 2.”
I thought the 2022s when I tried them this past August at the winery were starting to shut down, the Maresh Sparrows being the most open for what it’s worth. I would leave them be.

And because of that crazy good BD16 deal, one can open one today with no regrets! I have one on deck myself.
Practice makes perfect.
Without disrespect to newer winemakers, as you add years of practice your energy my not be as high as it was in youth but experience more than makes up for it. Longwinded way of agreeing that Kelley has always made really lovely wines (see 2010 Scott Paul wines) but the current set is amazing.
2024 was another pretty ideal vintage, so hopefully the streak continues.

I’ll PM you with some options to hold you over until the pink is ready…but that is still a couple of years away. You told me it needed to be serious (and I agree) so it’s taking me a couple of years to get the components ready ![]()

And, I suspect, to so many other trades or pursuits in life.
I saw you posted and thought, “Oh! Terry is going to call me out for doing a “Terry Harris” on a Kelley Fox!”

Nope!
I defend folks accused of committing heinous crimes. I’ll PM you my number, but for now my advice is you immediately stop publicly discussing your crime against that young wine . . . .

The oldest of a vertical purchased during Berserker Day. Tasted at home with a Chinese stew and a Warf-centered episode of ST DS9. The appearance shows sediment, ruby with purple trails. An almost imperceptible nose: mineral, a hint of tobacco, chocolate. An autumn forest morning, crunchy leaves under fresh dew. In the mouth, the minerality intermingles with berry. My partner tasted underripe strawberry at the front of the mouth. For me, dry with lively acids. Mild tannins. Lingering pear in th…
For anyone who ordered KF on BD, I got a notice it was shipping on March 10th this afternoon and it showed up this evening.
Interesting. I received an email today that mine just shipped. Scheduled for Monday delivery. If true, someone there is paying close attention to my weather forecast here at elevation, as the appropriate shipping windows have been few and tight so far this winter. Will have been a perfect choice if in fact the wine arrives either Monday or Tuesday!

Same here - Denver has a short window of perfect temps.
They seem to be. I got mine in Atlanta last week.
