I had to go to WSP and check that this was in fact a good deal. I can’t believe it’s up that high.

Justin Wells has started a small wine club called Daily Drinkers (the first wine club I have ever really belonged to) where he send a surprise (half case in my case) group of bottles monthly. Some super fun discoveries. Since we have bene in tasting groups together in the past, he has a good sense of my palate and has been right on the button with a lot of his picks.

  • 2020 La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts CuvĂŠe Zen - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Vinzelles (8/31/2022)
Mmm, intensely mineral, slightly reductive. Lemon and slate. Super clean. Long, salty, mouthwatering, deeply persistent.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (93 points)
  • 2018 GĂŠrard Mugneret Vosne-RomanĂŠe PrĂŠColombière - France, Burgundy, CĂ´te de Nuits, Vosne-RomanĂŠe (8/31/2022)
Mmmm, super pure, deep, dark, raspberry, soy, a really primary and intense wine. Perfect with planked salmon. Young. Delicious.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (92 points)
  • 2016 Danjou-Banessy Vin de Pays des CĂ´tes Catalanes Les Myrs - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Vin de Pays des CĂ´tes Catalanes (8/14/2022)
Mmm, wow, this is such a cool wine, such a different flavor profile than I am used to. Herbal and a bit sharp, strawberry and sage, fennel and pepper. Cool and taut with lovely acidity, cherry, strawberry and licorice. Peppery and firm, dusty but fine tannins. Super flint, mega old vine Carignan. Epic wine.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (93 points)
  • 2019 Marcel et Blanche Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (8/13/2022)
Insanely pure with seashell and copious lime zest. Deeply mineral with a generous (for a Chablis) palate reflecting the ripeness of 2019. Still quite precise and focused. Long and mouthwatering with lovely acidity and surprisingly supple and silky texture.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (92 points)
  • 2018 Domaine Denis Bachelet Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (8/12/2022)
Absolutely delicious, twangy and vibrant, dark fruit, shockingly silky texture for a Bourgogne. Bloody intensity yet light, dancing, vibrant. This doesn't seem like something to age much, but it has killer purity, depth and focus for such a young wine. Super tasty!
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (90 points)
  • 2018 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey RosĂŠ de Pinot-Noir - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (8/6/2022)
Very reductive nose, heavy sulfur, needs some air to blow that off, but then it shows some fresh sage, oregano and red currant. Spicy and intriguing on the approach. The palate is loaded with juicy watermelon with a heavy dose of salt, such a nice sweet/sour/salty balance, just dancing. I never really think about texture in a RosĂŠ, but this is unusually and wonderfully silky with a lush but not at all heavy texture.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (89 points)
  • 2019 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin La PrincĂŠe Blanc - France, Burgundy, CĂ´te de Beaune, Saint-Aubin (8/3/2022)
Well this is freaking delicious. Salt and slate. Edgy and savory, a nice razor of mineral precision. Lots of lime notes, really impressive acidity. Nervous. Intense. This is not an easy wine of simple pleasure but more of a razor, my style of white! Nice showing!
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (91 points)
  • 2018 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (7/30/2022)
The most textbook nose of ocean and oyster shell I have ever smelled in a Chablis. Lemon, lemon curd, salt and slate on a fairly rich palate. Wonderful acid and minerality, long, salty, quenching. Really singing.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (92 points)
  • 2019 Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (7/27/2022)
Fantastic aromatics. Rhubard and cranberry. Freshly tilled soil. Glowing color in the glass, pure, mineral, lasers of red fruit, taut, somewhat austere at this stage, but quite focused and gorgeous.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (90 points)
  • 2019 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Hauts Lieux - France, RhĂ´ne, Southern RhĂ´ne, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (7/16/2022)
Quite compelling, remarkable actually. The pine and white pepper flavor of CDP, sharp, spicy, toothsome but incredibly full and dusty. Deeply concentrated fruit, plush, insanely young, intensely pleasurable. This really needs some years, but it is so compelling, fresh and peppery, honestly, why not take the ride now. Enjoy!
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells. (96 points)
  • 2019 Vincent Pinard Sancerre Le Château - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (7/14/2022)
Surprisingly rich and honeyed, orange citrus, even with a hard chill, labeled as 14%. I generally like a bit more grass and mineral in a Sancerre, something more nervous and austere, but this is a uniquely ripe and concentrated expression. Quite interesting.

I had opened this under Coravin and circled back 11 days later, and *now* I am getting much more typical Sauv Blanc notes. Grassy, intense, mineral, a very rich style ala Daguneau (thanks for the suggestion JustinW), but very Sauv Blanc. Nice citrus, lime zest and stone. Really serious wine!

What experience level ($$?) did you choose?

3 pack-2019 Bella Oaks-Can’t wait to get my hands on these in Nov
3-2020 CeritasPorter Bass Chard

The top one. In month two Justin sent me 5 bottles instead of 6 to able to up the pricepoint a little bit–although he did fill the empty slot in the 6-shipper with a great EVOO (La Fiorita) that he uses at his restaurant.

I’m just really enjoying the surprise and discovery.
