Interesting. I agree that the Vacqueyras is great value - but also think Fonsalette is a clear step up. At the 100 EUR I pay for the Fonsalette I find it an absolute steal =)
I would buy it more often if I could get it for €100 (!)
The best value play however, is for me the Pignan at 168 EUR allocation price - quite close to the Rayas magic, at below half the price… unfortunately I only get 1-2 each year
The lower end 14’s have been great. Can only imagine how good Pignan and Rayas will be!
Happy to share one at some point when I am back in Copenhagen!
two 375’s of 1947 Villefranche Sauternes…not terribly familiar with Villefranche in general, but the price was right
Hi Benjamin, really nice allocation for sure.
It is interesting to see how the Rayas vintages being offered vary in different countries.
This year the Rayas allocation here in NZ was 2014 with extra bottles of the 2012 and 2010. Last year it was very small volumes of the 2013 with extra bottles of the 2012, 2011 and 2010.
I am also a huge fan of the entire range with the Vacqueyras and Fonsalette being the best “value” choices in the range for me.

2007 Lafarge Volnay Clos de Chenes
2017 Bouchard Echezeaux
FWIW, I prefer the Pialade over the Pignan. Haven’t had the others. Pignan was very good, but also quite hot on the palate (15%). Pialade is absolute killer, especially for the comparative cost…
This is what makes wine so fun - individual preferences. Pialade is my least favourite wine in the whole range. The 14 was good, but in general not a wine I enjoy too much
To be clear, I prefer the 14 Pialade over the 14 Pignan, not necessarily in general ![]()
Nice catch this week:
3x Elise Bougy Chetillons (18 base)
12x Keller Nierstein Kabinett 24 (Pattenthal + Hipping)
1x Max Kilburg Ohligsberg Kabinett Alte Reben
Well done. Those are not offered domestically at all.

I am pretty much done purchasing wine (yeah, right!) but cannot resist temptation. So two Napa Valley Cabernets were acquired recently: 2012 Abreu Rothwell Hyde St. Helena and 1991 Oakville Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
