What is YOUR most recent wine purchase? (Part 2)

Every bottle I’ve ever opened hasn’t been ready including vintages where the Bonnes mares was drinking great like 07.

I would be curious to try one of the younger vintages. Roumier wines are definitely more accessible young than they used to be.

If you can’t get off the waitlist…

Bought my first Beta ('21 Lupina) from Winebid. And now we wait…

Yeah idk, I’ve stopped buying any Roumier wines other than Bonnes mares now; they’re just a lot less predictable for me.

Had the 01 Musigny this year and it was dark and brooding and nowhere near ready.

I’ve had a handful of Bussiere over the years -mid oughts to '12 mostly- and …young, or old, in between- just never a very interesting wine. Overpriced because its Roumier. Maybe I just drank them too young. Or not young enough. I have some recent vintages but have not opened recently.

Bonnes Mares is definitely the one to seek out.

But I’m a buyer and huge fan of the Chambolle AOC when it can be found for reasonable prices (which it sometimes can be). Cras is wonderful too, though again I’m only a buyer when I can find it reasonably.

I love roumier but they do require patience and yes they do end up coming along.

And that’d be fine if it was predictable. I find it pretty predictable for the Bonnes mares but not the other wines. I’d be seriously pissed if I opened up a 10k bottle of 01 Roumier musigny like Andrew did and it showed nothing when most 01s are drinking wonderfully.

I’ve only had a couple sips of Roumier Moose, but multiple Roumier aficionados (who have had a fair bit) have remarked to me that they much prefer the BM, because Roumier’s miniscule Musigny holdings result in inconsistency. The larger BM holding allows Roumier to be more selective and make a more consistent wine.

That’s really fascinating

Thanks for sharing that, Ryan. Always keen to hear insights/practical observations like this.

Yeah it makes sense. I’ve only had it a few times and it was fine but not mind blowing.

I never had his GC’s so won’t be able to comment. I only buy village, cras and morey.
Bonnes mares sound like i would need to target it.

22 Les Cras is crazy good… Almost on par with Amoureuses. Same fruit profile, but missing that last little gear.

I find amoureuses to be a bit denser and more serious of a wine from Roumier than cras.

I’ve never been a huge cras fan, though, crazy overpriced. I’d rather have one Bonnes mares than two cras.

4 x 2020 Lafarge-vial Fleurie - this was bought under a 24 hour offer with a 39% “Fuck the tariff” discount in recognition of Trump putting 39% tariff on Swiss exports!

2 x 2023 Erich Meier Pinot Noir Reblaube

This is in an interesting one. I like the white wines on the Zurichsee (where I live), we have lots of small vineyards and most make very drinkable whites. Erich Meier, however is far the best - you’ll find it stocked in many decent hotels and restaurants in the German part of Switzerland, I’d recommend to try them if you have the opportunity.

I’ve never been keen on the Zurichsee reds (mostly Pinot Noir), again the Erich Meier ones are pretty decent, but price point isn’t attractive for what are really just daily drinkers. However this 2023 Reblaube has been one of only 3 Pinot Noir’s in Switzerland to be rated 97 by Falstaff (the others; 2017 Donatsch Pinot Noir Unique and 2012 Chambleau Pur Sang)- given that I had to give it a whirl, one for drinking early as a test and the other to cellar. 288 bottles in total produced, 100% whole cluster aged in Oak from the forest by the vineyard.

4 each Pride 23’ Merlot and Cab Franc + 1 magnum of the CF

I’ve also heard that for the last 25 years, also without ever having tried it myself

But I’m still mourning the loss of the days of their village Chambolle at $40
