Riesling Auslese Goldkap Oberhauser Brucke Donnhoff 2010

Don’t have too much experience with this bottling, but have liked the ones I have had. Figured ‘10 would be showing well in 375 format.

Desiree has always been a Lafon plot and it has always been bottled as Desiree. Its actually one of the more unique appellations that can be used on a bottle. Desiree is part of the 1er Cru Meursault Santenots, but it’s one of the old pre-appellation names for the 1er Cru. Rene Lafon used to label this wine as “1er Cru Desiree” up until the 1970s when he was approached by the appellation controlee who notified him that if he wanted to continue using the 1er Cru designation he would need to bottle the wine as Meursault Santenots. They could continue using Desiree, but they would need to declassify the fruit to village level. Given that this wine is generally considered to be village level in quality they opted to declassify the fruit, and to keep with tradition and continue bottling the wine as Desiree even though it is technically considered 1er Cru Meursault Santenots.

Meursault Santenots is typically considered to be better soil for red wine and is planted to both colors. Even though the appellation is technically inside the Meursault boundary, when the wine from this plot is red it is bottled as the 1er Cru Volnay Santenos (hence Lafon’s top red wine). This is Burgundy at its most confusing and its best!

When I first popped the cork it was very muted on the nose and palate… let it open up in the bottle for a few hours and it was a good wine, not great.

Aromatics definitely improved, notes of tobacco, violets & cherry. The palate still had a prominent tannin structure and some mild acidity. Finish was not very long. Rating it out of 5 it would be a 3

GrandVin closeout sale, at really nice prices. Someone beat me to the last of GrandVin’s 2019 PGC Estate Vineyard, which was a killer deal.

Also, GrandVin still has some 2022 Walter Scott PN on sale, about 33% off regular price, fwiw.

Now, going to call my therapist . . . . :scream:  :wine_glass:
