Hopefully you were drinking 2009 Domaine Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru when this happened because if you were drinking Scotch or Bourbon, this might not be a sound purchase.

Yes!

Love this producer, but have never had any of his wines quite so old. At $20, I’m more than willing to take the flyer, and I have the sneaking suspicion that they will be very good!

Please let us know. If anyone could make beaujolais in a style that ages, seems like he would be the one.

Château des Jacques ages well. Actually, it requires aging!

I’m three bottles into a case of Ch. Des Jacques 2009 that I bought to satisfy curiosity. We had one this past Thanksgiving: “Really nice nose, spicy red and black fruit, bit of savory. Mineral palate, refreshing acidity. Grippy. Pretty intrigued by where this is going. Still seems young.”

I have a book from the 80s where Jean Claude Vrinat of Taillevent was quoted raving about recent tastings of 1947 Fleurie.

I wonder if they’re still made in such a style. The last I had was a 2012. Maybe our WB Wikipedia/AI would know, Mr. @William_Kelley?

Hi Phil!

The style gradually evolved under Cyril Chirouze towards more seamless tannic structure and more integrated (indeed, by the end almost imperceptible) oak influence, all the while retaining the historic emphasis on long macerations and predominantly destemmed fruit (which tends to get described as “Burgundian” winemaking). I think the result will be that they offer broader, and if anything, longer drinking windows than the wines did a decade-and-a-half ago.

Best,

William

A fellow Berserker opened a bottle of Marsanne-Roussanne a couple of weeks ago and it blew my mind. Saw this in a local wine shop so I had to jump on it. Hopeful to try more in the near future!
