It could have been the haul of a lifetime
I accompanied Arnold to an estate sale and what did I see on the kitchen counter but a bottle of 1991 Mongeard Mugneret Ech VV, a wine that I love
I quickly asked how it had been stored and they informed me that it was in a refrigerated cabinet but the power had been turned off for a few months (‘in the summer) There were other bottles downstairs and I could have them for $10@ if I bought something else’
Many low fills , sos, leakage,
I suspected vinegar but figured it was worth the try and picked up 5 of the least compromised bottles
First bottle opened was a 1979 Batailly. Not terrible but nothing much there. Tasted like a $10 bottle of wine.
I still have 2 of the MM, a 1989 Beaucastel and a 1990 Beaucastel to roll the dice on
I felt a little sad as I’m guessing the owner kept some special bottles on hand to enjoy before he passed away. I hope he got to drink most of them

Were there just two VR les Petits offered? I assumed someone scored a few before me. I just happened to be at my computer when the Berthaut offer dropped. I did take 5 mins to research which was the better label to purchase. Fortunately Burgundy_Al on CT had done a walkaround tasting of most of their wines a few weeks ago but I could feel the pressure to make a decision and get em in my cart! If ever in Tampa/St. Pete area lets get together and open something good! But no Winter nights here…

Probably have some kind of algorithm with how much you buy from them. I don’t know how long they’ve been doing the two lists. I just started getting separate offers in the past year.
