What is the lightest Ultra thin glass

Im new and been reading all the threads on glasses. I currently have tried the Josephine by Zalto, Zieher Vision Series and the Gabriel Gold Edition. I like the Gabriel Golds for whites and prefer a larger glass for reds. So far nothing has been as light and thin rimmed as the Gabriel Gold. Is there anything out there that are bigger glasses that have the feel of the Gabriel Gold?

First off, welcome to Wine Berserkers Josh!

As far as glassware recommendations, check out Zaltos, they tend to be a little thinner than the JosephinenhĂźtte stems, although they are currently pretty much on a months long global backorder at the moment, so finding them to purchase may be challenging. Many high end restaurants carry them though.

Also check out Grassl stems. I’m a big fan of their entire lineup.

There’s also a handful of past threads with tons of glassware recommendations and discussions that are worth exploring.

Not the lightest, but Nude Zeros are great. Very thin and I’m not scared of them breaking.

Thank you I think I read every thread on the glasses on here as well. I love an ultra thin rimmed light glass like the GGG just larger for my reds. Im purely looking for a large glass that is as thing as the GGG if there is one. So the Zalto and Grassl is thinner then the JosephinenhĂźtte

Happen to have my glassware near my coffee scale. Caveat: I’m pulling a random single glass. Hand blowns will vary from stem to stem…

GGG 81.5 grams
Zalto Bordeaux: 123.3 grams
Grassl 1855: 111.5 grams
Grassl Cru: 110.3 grams
Glasvin Expression: 124.1 grams
Glasvin Aromatic: 122.5 grams

I have limited experience with the Josephinenhütte stems, but I did find them a bit thicker than Zaltos and Grassl. And Grassls tend to be a bit thicker than Zaltos. Grassl made a decision a few years ago to make ever so slightly thicker stems to make them more durable. There’s still pretty thin by my book, and they tend to be my preferred stems across their range of stems.

Be aware that pretty much all larger stems, e.g. Bordeaux and Burgundy stems will likely be ‘heavier’ than the GGGs simply because there’s more glass. They can still feel pretty light and have thin, delicate rims and stems. I just weighed a few of my stems, and some have as much as a 10g difference between them. Two of my Grassl Crus weighed in at 101.9g and 103.4g, and my sole remaining Zalto Burgundy at 121.1g. The Zalto Burgundy glass rim is thinner, but given its larger it weighs a tad more. It’s also worth keeping in mind that most of the high end glasses are handmade, so there’s also some very slight variability in weight and thinness from stem to stem.

Thin lip may not equal lightest.

Are you looking for that trait because you find it appealing aesthetically or functionally?

All of the ‘good/better’ mouth blown stems will have cut rims.

Gabriel makes an excellent glass. As does Zalto, Sophienwald, and Glasvin.

As the US importer for Grassl, I’m biased.

But it would be silly to say one is ‘better’ than the other as any wine on any day can show well in different stems.

All of the above should be in that 1MM lip thickness

What kind of reds do you drink? That may be a better indication of which Brand and which stem in the brand you should seek out.

Gabriel, Zalto, and Grassl are all supply constrained. I can’t speak for Sophienwald. And Glasvin looks like stock is good as David was able to fill WB Day orders quickly.

I reload with cargo on 3/17/22 and again 4/30/22 and 6/3/22.

But don’t necessarily draw a comparison between weight and thinness. They are correlated. But they aren’t the right measurement.

Frankly, get the glass you like the most after trying some. You may find very unique performance results by brand and style based on what you drink and at what age the wine.

Drink mostly Cabs. .I guess what I like most is a razor thin rim like the GGG.

@$72 a stem?

So much is just personal taste, can’t be captured with weights or descriptions. We took an instant dislike to the Glasvin stems we ordered, 3 different shapes. I can’t tell you why, we just knew as soon as we picked them up that we wouldn’t want to use them. Others love them. So unfortunately I fear it’s very much a matter of trial and error. Luckily service is great from both David and Chris.

I got them on Black Friday, so not @ $72 and at .23 lbs just over 104 grams. So cheaper than GGGs, but not as light.

I am really interested in why if you can convert the experiential to the analytical.

I got my Conterno Sensory glasses for like $60, doesn’t mean replacement cost isn’t $75 to a $100. Mainly I asked because the Nude website doesn’t give a clue if it’s one, two or four glasses. Glassvin pricing always throws me off since it’s for two glasses.

So what part of “can’t tell you why” didn’t you believe? And that’s my point - even if I could, I don’t think it would be meaningful for anyone trying to decide.

They turned us off. Never even got wine into them

Fair enough, I got mine for Neiman Marcus and all of the glasses shipped in their own protected tubes. A bit ironic with their name, but all the glasses came in pristine condition. I presume it’s for single glasses however I’m not sure if they bundle their glasses either directly from online store. Sorry, thought you were implying that Nude glasses were somehow vastly more expensive than the ones listed.

I’ve noticed with a very full pour the glass does have some play in the stem. I know it’s on purpose, but it’s an odd sensation of having your stem bend and not break when swirling.

I’m shocked! I’ll be happy to take any Prestige and/or Obsession off of your hands.

Haven’t weighed them, but Riedel Sommelier series Bordeaux and Burgundy glasses feel like light bulbs they are so thin.

I returned them all. Excellent service.

I have a few Sommelier Series glasses, and compared to the Grassl glasses the Riedels are clunky and heavy.
