What I drank this Friday

2007 Ken Wright McCrone
A very alluring nose, rich and yet somehow true to the vintage. Nice mid-palate, with a striking black tea note on top of the usual suspects of bramble berry. Took an hour to open, drank over 3 hours. Not a huge fan of the fruit-forward style, I liked this quite a lot. The nose was really remarkable.

2007 Westrey Justice
Truly…Undeniably…Beautifully…Shitty+. Superyum.
Beautiful dusty leather nose, it makes me think of chaps that haven’t been taken down for years, though not having grown up with horses I really have no idea. The taste is a purity of sun-beaten blackberry briar fruit, characteristic of the 07 vintage, with elegance and satisfying depth (not richness) in spades. Redolent with that dusty note, it is very typical of Westrey, and why I like the producer so much. Sorry, not much of an erudite description, but make friends with those who have it. It took a full 2 1/2 hours to open, drank over 5 hours, and it was in no danger of fading.

You know that really nice, alluring smell the bottom of an emptied glass has after a couple of hours, but that you never seem to get while drinking the bottle? Not so with the Westrey Justice. It delivers that same experience throughout the full course of its expression.

Did I mention it was tasty?

Thanks fo the notes.

The '07 KW Savoya and Carter both showed very well at the '07 Oregon Smackdown last August. Surprising many who are not normally KW fans . . . one of the benefits/perils of tasting blind.

The '07 Westrey’s have been good from the get-go. It sounds like the Justice has improved over the past 12 to 18 months. Time to crack another bottle. That note sounds lip-smacking good.

Thanks for the notes. It has been a few years since the 07 Justice. Sounds like it is time to re-visit.
