What Goodfellow/Matello are you drinking?

For sure, but you and I also seem to enjoy “tight” wines more than many people. The 17 Block 11 is in an all comers kind of place for me at this point, but I liked it a few years back just as much.

Optimal drinking windows really vary from person to person. I always keep an eye on CT notes and friends thoughts but I generally open things a bit early anyway.

Decided to take a ride on the PnP train tonight with the 2015 Whistling Ridge Heritage #4. Just a beautiful wine. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I know you popped and poured, but with the benefit of hindsight, how long of a decant do you think is optimal? I have six bottles of Heritage No. 5, and I’ve been contemplating opening my first.

Charles, I think you can’t go wrong (with the Whistling Ridge Heritage #4, at least) either way. I drank a little more than half my bottle last evening, over about four hours. It was singing beautifully the entire four hours.

I’ve got two of the 2015 Durant Heritage #5, but don’t believe I’ve yet opened one. My usual routine with these wines with a bit of bottle age is to decant for 2 or 3 hours. I looked at the #4 and noticed it was not throwing any sediment and decided, what the hell, I’ll try the pop and pour route others mentioned. Let us know about the #5 if you open one - I say, go for it!! :grinning: :wine_glass:

LMAO at the terrible photo. Luckily the 2023 Whistling Ridge riesling was every bit as good as my photo is bad. (Also, sorry for the yellow mustard I didn’t realize I was out of the home grown.)

Of course, Marcus and Megan came through on the replacement for the stolen Mystery 6. Really looking forward to digging into these after letting them settle for a bit.

And yet again, another Chard gem crafted by Marcus. A fairly clear hue (as is the norm here) leads the taster to experience some snappy green apple fruit, good acidity, and the wines dry extract seemed to provide most of the structure here. At sub $30, a very strong use of ones domestic chard dollars. (91 points)

Was in our mix this past Thursday evening. Loved it.

Has anyone popped the Temperence Hill BdB recently? Does it need more time for its elements to coalesce or it’s ready to go?

Just got my first-ever box of Goodfellow Chards:

2021 Temperance Hill
2022 Tsai Vineyard
2023 Durant Vineyard
2023 Temperance Hill
2023 Whistling Ridge Vineyard Richard’s Cuvée

Which would you open first, the 2021 Temperance Hill?

Do the different bottlings typically exhibit different drinking windows, or is there a general sweet spot/rule of thumb for when they tend to drink well?

I can say that I tasted the three 2023s last week and they might be the finest Goodfellow Chards I’ve had going back to 2015. I found them to be light, elegant, crisp, balance, and very approachable. They did not have heavy reduction, oak, tropical notes, or thickness.

Finally have some back vintage Goodfellow bottles in my cellar. Popped this one open tonight. With steak japchae.

Truly delicious stuff. Just got a mixed case from Marcus, will post some notes as I start to pop some of the other bottles, this one was just a teaser for me.

Temperance can be a bit reductive and likely benefits from age. Id try the Tsai, but all are in a good spot to open and learn about.

2017 WR Pinot Noir - still quite youthful but in an early open window. After an hour and a half in the decanter, shows sour cherry, spices, dirt, rose water, leather and bitters on the nose. Palate features bright acidity, grippy tannins, and an earth and bitters inflected red fruit character. Lovely.

About half the bottle being saved for the weekend, and think it will show even better if that air time can coax a touch more fruit out.

Thoroughly enjoyed a delicious 2015 Goodfellow Bishop Creek Pinot Noir last evening. Just a beautiful wine that is so fragrant and tasty right now. Nothing short of wonderful and delicious. Decanted for a little over 2 hours (and, unlike most every other Goodfellow bottle of Pinot Noir I’ve opened over the past few years, this one actually had a nice streak of sediment along its spine). Again, just beautiful. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :wine_glass:

@Marcus_Goodfellow and/or @Megan_Joy , just curious, but are your Bishop Creek bottlings all from Block 3A of the Bishop Creek Vineyard?

Thanks and, again, just a beautiful wine!! :wine_glass:
