You used “Pere & Fils”!
Drats!!!
I don’t think it’s right to be talking about heroin or opium on a public wine forum nor should anyone admit to chasing the dragon
Charlie, how dare you bring something as unwholesome as drugs into this when I was merely referencing this beloved children’s book.
Ok, I will play. I know there is no way I can ever relive the experience of the 1992 Arrowood Merlot that made me into a crazed wine lover. It’s just not going to happen. First off I do not even like Merlot anymore.
That night is etched in my brain though.
88 Krug. The first bottle.
'90 la Tache like it was water. So cheap, back in the mid '90s…
79 Amity PN
And the 1980 Reserve…
45’ Haut Brion
One day, 89’, 09’ or 10’ HB may just reach there…keeping my fingers crossed
Easy
Rene Dauvisuet 1983 Grand Cru Les Clos Chablis.
A wine I can still taste 30 years later but cannot find anything even close to
easy–'96 Mongeard-Mugneret Clos de Vougeot.
Not the greatest wine, but the bottle which started the madness for us.
1996 Heitz Ink Grade Cabernet
Intersting, mine is 94 Merryvale Ink Grade Cabernet!
Edited to add, after reading some of the follow-ups to Mike’s post…
I don’t believe Merryvale sold this outside of their winery either.
And at the time I visited and bought 3-4 bottles I think, I recall the staff saying that the grapes went into Harlan. No idea if that was true or not.
Ediited to add, after further review … lol (sorry for my confusion)
Mine was actually the 1992 Merryville Oakville Grade Cabernet - but the note o nHarlan using the grapes does apply.
Interesting indeed.

King, I’ve had these–pretty decent. I think the Cellar Tracker Barrel Project wines used Ink Grade in some vintages.
'83 Rousseau Chambertin, recently drunk at a hotel restaurant where it was well below market and they knew it. It’s given me a serious GC jones.
For further details, see: TN: A Rousseau P. & F. Chambertin 1983 - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers
1863 Wiese & Krohn Colheita Port from cask at the lodge. They were bought out by Taylor Fladgate last year and have recently released the same wine as Taylors Single Harvest 1863 at 4,000 euros/bottle.
I’ve learned that no one wine is that important and If it comes to that for me I will stop playing the wine collecting game. It probably would be Rochioli East Block or Dalla Valle Maya, if I “had” to answer.
However, for my wife, it would probably be Rockford P.S. Marion Tawny Port, we found on our honeymoon trip to Australia. It was only available at the Cellar Door but I was later able to track it down from “our” Friends at Napa Valley Cigar. Rockford, like many other Australian Wineries, no longer sells in the US. I still have 3 bottles for her in the cellar.

Never had 45’ Mouton before but lucky enough to have the 59’ Lafite and 61’ Latour once.
'90 la Tache like it was water. So cheap, back in the mid '90s…
Don’t remind me. I bought 90’ and 91’ La Tache by cases. Got sucked into Burgundy because of 90’ DRC GE and 90’ DRC Richebourg.
Gemello 1970. It won blind our 2001 re-creation of the Paris tasting, against wines such as Latour 1970, Petrus 1970 Heitz Matha’s 1974 etc. I managed to buy a couple of bottles, but always looking.
Otherwise a couple of Ridges…1968 Cab and 1973 Geyserville Zin
Back in the 70’s, it was no later than 1976, we were drinking a Carl Sittmann Niersteiner Gutes Domtal Riesling Kabinett that truly expanded my consciousness. Never had anything like it since. Probably it was my virgin taste buds.
