What do you use to monitor temp and humidly in your cellar?

looks like the “weather” module would work. man that stuff is expensive tho - looks very pretty.

That’s what I have. Indoor unit’s in my cellar, outdoor is outdoors. Unit and alarm work great, and you can use the sound sensor as an alarm (if whoever comes in makes more noise than your cooling unit).

Just an update: worked just as well this winter. Still like the interface, very user friendly and you can get history graphs if you like. The sensors have batteries that take over if the power goes out. It emails/texts you if any limits (which you can set) on temp or humidity are exceeded or the power goes off.

So installed two of the sensors in my wine room and it was as simple and faster than I thought it would take!! I spent 10 minutes total of making a new account and setting them up. Wow that was painless and am very happy with the product. If you are not sure if they are worth it, it was in my book by a mile. I used to use lacrosse and always had issues with connectivity and dropping out all the time. These wireless tags are more accurate too.

Absolutely love mine… Have two cellar sensors in each of my two cellars. I have one on the garage door. one on the front door and one outside. Not only can I see garage temps, house temps, and outside temp I can get notifications anytime anyone comes to the house. I can tell exactly when the cleaning folks come or the pet sitters when we are out of town…

Reliability has been fantastic and 6 units have been within a 2F of each other. I calibrated all the average of the units. in two different houses with two different zones. Internet connectivity/reliability is just amazing compared to my old unreliable solution. The latency on events is impressive. push messages to my phone come in about 1 second. If there is a internet outage I get a notification on the timeout and on the reconnect.

Overall this is a very well done product for very little dollars…

Recent posters - which product(s) are you referring to? Would help if you put that in your post . . .

sorry havent read through in a while… www.wirelesstag.net

Thanks - looks intriguing. So basically you buy the ethernet tag manager plus whatever tags you want, and away you go?

correct. in addition to whatever else you might want, i strongly recommend getting this sensor and then the following external probe to keep track of actual wine temp (just insert the probe in a bottle filled with water):

reed kumo sensor: https://goo.gl/D8ZWfL

DROK Waterproof Temperature Sensor DS18B20 -55¡æ to +125¡æ 39.37’’ Digital Temperature Probe Thermometer with Heat Resistance Thermal Cable and Stainless Steel Probe for Refrigerator Car

that way you can get a true reading of the wine temp and compare (if you want) to ambient. you can switch back and forth in the app between the probe and ambient, or easier, just get the cheapest tag and stick it in the cellar.

thanks Yaacov, ordering that too!!

Thanks as well . . . definitely coming up on time to replace the Lacrosse . . .

Sort of odd that the door opening sensor is the only one you can attach a probe to - kind of limits the positioning of the probe to somewhere near the door (or within 3m).

But I like idea of a door sensor on the cellar, what with a child getting into the age range where I need to monitor these things (really more the friends or “friends”).

How long are the batteries for the wirelesstag lasting? I have had to replace both of mine after about nine months. I had hoped they would last longer than this.

you don’t have to use the door function, i don’t. i just tape the two pieces together and place them anywhere.

additionally, the smaller tag units also have movement sensors that can be quite sensitive, so you can easily attach one of those to a door and use that for ambient and humidity, which is what i do. this one will do fine:

well, they’re really cheap, but that is annoying. i’m at 95% on all my sensors and it’s been closer to a year. there are settings to lessen the load, easiest is lengthening the period between checks.

I have my temperature set to the max time but the door sensitivity to medium high, I may reduce it to see how the time is. I am not too concerned about the door being opened now since I do not have contractors in the house anymore.

Sorry I was talking about wirelesstag.net which what I am using. Here’s an example graph showing temp over time…

Utah cellar door is a reed sensor on the top of the door to the cellar room.
Utah cellar rack is a tile directly attached to a bottle in the middle of the rack

The other 4 sensors are in california.

Front door is a reed sensor on our front door. temp represents interior house temp
Garage door is a reed sensor on our garage door. temp represents ~outdoor temp
The two cellar temps are the tag pro sensors. one on the door for motion and one deep in the 2 deep racks attached to a bottle.

My target cellar temp is 60F. No experience on the batteries needing replacement yet. Just checked and all sensors indicate more than 90% battery left. Only been 3 months. I have these set to update like every 10 minutes. I tried to make each sensor as low power as seemed safe.

I’ve run into that too. Don’t use the motion sensors or have frequent updates. Have 5 tags and they all needed replaced around 6-9 months.

I have to say, this sounds great. NetAtmo is working perfectly well for me, but if I had it to do again this seems a little more powerful and flexible.

Paul, is this what you have? I need something robust to monitor my cellar temperature, do not care for humidity.

Which cellar monitor would be best for when I’m away to check on the temperature only?
