What dessert wine did you drink tonight?

1976 Ratzenberger Bacharacher Wolfshöhle Scheurebe und Ortega Beerenauslese

From 350 ml bottle. Nicely balanced, moderately sweet, with aromas/flavors of honey, pecan pie, caramel, peaches, tropical fruits, and some baking spice. Not one of the great German 1976s, but a very enjoyable dessert wine.

Not sure this fully fits, but maybe

Barbeito Benjamin Franklin 10th Anniversary Special Reserve

Enjoying this immensely. Will slowly be consumed over the course of a month

Should have cross-posted here on 1996 Pierre-Bise Chaume:

Just got better and better, smoother and smoother with passing days, with walnut and fig newton adds (the cheesecake was a homemade-by-friend triple chocolate affair):

"1970 Taylor Fladgate Very Old Single Harvest Port

The regular cuvee of TF was my WOTY 3 years ago. I will track this over a few days, and it probably won’t be WOTY, but will be on the list. 3 hours’ decant. Sensational drink—aromas and flavours of chocolate-covered dates and simply blooms with energy. Only the smallest hint of molasses at the back to add further interest. The lifetime of this wine is certain to far exceed my own. I had saved this for a special occasion and it was special—though matched by that cheesecake. What a dreamy combination."

A group of Port loving friends gathered with past weekend. Opened the following;
Wood aged: 1994 Grahams Single Harvest, very nice and a decent price.
1968 Krohn Colheita, always nice but perhaps too long in bottle.
1976 Niepoort Colheita excellent.
Bulas 40 year old tawny, an excellent 40.
Vieira de Sousa 40+ year old tawny, an off bottle, not corked but something definitely wrong.
Casa Sta. Eufemia 40 year old tawny, superb, the best of the tawnies.
Ruby: 2002 Quinta do Javali LBV, a surprise, excellent wine.
1998 Ramos Pinto LBV, superb, perhaps not the complexity of a VP but youthful and rich.
1960 Warres VP, very nice, perhaps needed a couple more hours than the 3 hours of decant time.
1963 Taylors VP, best showing in a long time for this wine. Beautiful after 5 hours in decanter.
1980 Dows VP, one of the best of the decade of the 1980’s and this didn’t disappoint.
1985 Dows VP, also great and a hair behind the 1980.
1986 Dows Quinta do Bonfim. A great SQVP just behind the Dows VP’s.

Looks like a great mix there, Eric. Ah, the 1980 Dow. Changed my life on Port. Roy Hersh poured it for me.

“I used to say that I needed to be in the mood to have port. Then I visited Roy and he introduced me to some lovely older stuff (a 1980 Dow in this case) and I discovered that I didn’t have to be in the mood after all—I could just enjoy port. It was a fun and truly pleasurable revelation.”

Did you open that 2001 Selbach Eiswein? I have a 750ml of 2001 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Eiswein and I wonder how it’s doing.

Not yet, we took a Willi Schaefer over instead. Tempted to just save it for a cool October weekend meal at home or Thanksgiving.

1946 Rivesaltes about 3 weeks ago, meant to post. Didn’t take notes because, honestly, who can write legibly at that point in the night? I love that it’s like a lighter port. I love that it’s more affordable. I’m hunting this stuff down with a vengeance.

From last Friday at the Berserkers Bordeaux 2009 in NYC dinner

Chateau Suduiraut
Lafaurie-Peyraguey
Chateau Guiraud
Chateau La Tour Blanche

Chateau Suduiraut - was the stand out wine… much more complex. Seemed older in color, nose and palate. Hopefully continues to age gracefully

Has anyone had Merry Edwards Sauv Blanc Late Harvest and opine? A friend highly recommended sourcing a few bottles. Only made in certain years and current release SO at winery.

2010 Ficklin Row 100. 55% Sousao and 45% Tinta Cao planted in 1945. Cofermented and aged in 50 gallon oak barrels. Bottled in 2012. Three barrels made.

2007 Vinedo de los Vientos Tannat Alcyone Reserve

Very much enjoyed this wine.

2004 Chateau Guiraud

I think this has much more time than it seems to be getting credit for. I enjoyed it out of a 375ml. I have 3 more and wont touch any at least until 2027.

2009 Marchesi Antinori Muffato della Sala IGT

Yquem 1879 . Francois Audouse probably would have loved it but …. , it was shot …

Ouch. sad to hear.

1989 Chateau Suduiraut Chateau Suduiraut

Still quite lively. After several hours of air, the acidity came a bit more to the forefront providing the citrus notes needed to keep this in balance. Blood orange, tangerines, peaches, apricot, orange peel, honey and baking spices.

1959 Antonio Ferrari Solaria Jonica

Sadly DOA.

2005 Chateau La Tour Blanche in 750ml. My second of three bottles, and I must confess to preferring it to Suduiraut at this point.
