Lot 49, 2018 Alexander Valley Cabernet, thought to be Medlock Ames - surprised to be saying this, but drink up, this is ready and not going to improve from here. Wine is ok, but not exceptional, CT score seems about right (88)
Happy for you on this one, but also not. That is definitely on my short list of the ones that got away. I was on a plane when it released and it was gone when I landed. This enterprise was harder but more fun when you felt like you had minutes to respond to the great deals.
I’ve not been following this thread closely for a while. After years, we have nearly finished the dozens of cases of '18 & '19 dN cab. On to the 21s. Are there any 21s that are drinking poorly - and may need more time? thanks.
I’m now holding out Lot 390 | 2021 Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon until at least 2029. The 2021 Shiraz L 349 & 354 are on target at this time. Note that L 354 is continuing to mature nicely.
396 isn’t ready IMO. Not drinking poorly, just not near its potential.
Thanks Jonah, I’ll keep mine stashed in the back for a while more.
Tim - thanks for the note; I’ve been holding off waiting for these to come around. I don’t have any 21 cabs, so can’t help you there. I like my reds older than apparently a lot of the DN crowd, so still have a fair number of 18/19 cabs that are still on the upslope for me.
The DN 2018 Malbec appears to be on the downslope so I will drink mine up soon:
Splash decant. The fruit and blackberry notes have faded a little more since my last bottle so more savory earthy flavors are in the fore, but a well-integrated, mature Malbec. Paired well with red beans and rice. I may have had a better $15 bottle of wine, but I can’t remember when.
Thanks. Looks like the only 21s I have are 357,370,429,430, & 472
429, is ready and beautiful! Enjoy!
240 Washington cab. 2019. As good as ever. Only have 3/48 left. Such a reliable wine
244 Sonoma 2019 cab. One of the stealthily great wines. I think I only have 1/12 left. Sad to have to move on from this one.
Both without decant
A pet project from Cam:
2021 Eleveur Pinot Noir Twin Hills
~12\24, PnP, 5 years past vintage.
This is drinking fine now. The oak has finally integrated nicely. Deep and emerging complexity.
A hefty PN for sure, delightful. Day 2 still fresh! Can go a few more years.
with avocado, mushroom omelettes
Lot 362, 2019 Russian River Valley Zinfandel
Worst dN I’ve had to date, and I’ve had a lot of lots.
Day 1 Coravined…thin, not really distinctly a Zin. I thought…needs air, pulled the cork.
Day 2 nearly undrinkable. Took a gulp and then poured it down the drain.
No notes on this anywhere…am I the only one who bought this one?
