Awesome thank you all! Will eschew the 24hr decant!
What’s everyone got on their menu for wines tonight?
We are doing a bottle of PJ Belle Epoque to start with followed by a DN n.292 (2021 Cotes du Rhone Blanc) and then a bottle of DN n.270 (2019 RRV Pinot Noir).
Thinking I should get that pinot into a decanter reading notes about it being better on the 2nd day. Last bottle we opened was last Thanksgiving so it’s been awhile on that one.
Spent yesterday doing food prep for today’s meal Wanted something not heavy nor “boozy”
- 2019 de Négoce Pinot Noir OG N.70-C - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains (11/27/2024)
Popped and poured after pre Thanksgiving food prep all day. Served with a handmade pizza that overpowered this delicate Oregon Pinot.
After dinner though, is where this wine really became enjoyable. Nose has some light raspberry and spice. Light garnet red color. Mouthfeel is medium body with slight gylcerin gliding the sneaky tannins along a medium plus length finish. A very subtle Oregon Pinot here. I've had far worse Oregon Pinots for the price paid from de Negoce. Wine should go for another 2-3 years in bottle. Don't see it improving, just drinking window. (89 points)

Well, this is a VERY IMPORTANT decision!!!
It’s always easier for me to buy a stock(equity shares), than to choose which fancy wine.
I haven’t decided yet…Go figure…
We will be having n.50…without a 24-hr decant! (We have a beef roast, not turkey, on TG.)
We don’t normally have dessert wine, but I inherited 6 half-bottles of “NV Château d’Yquem No. 6” (not the real Yquem) from my dad and we are thinking of opening the first bottle tonight. I don’t really know what we’re doing with that one, so it may be a mistake – we have pecan pie, tarte tatin, and vanilla ice cream.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Château d’Yquem is a wow.
Botrytis Cinera can be a Yummy Fungus, Enjoy!
Botrytis cinerea is a necrotrophic fungus that affects many plant species, although its most notable hosts may be wine grapes. In viticulture, it is commonly known as “botrytis bunch rot”; in horticulture, it is usually called “grey mould” or “gray mold”.
SWEET booze can be good booze…
Double posted, removed.
#329 has worked well with Duck and with Chicken. Let’s try it with son-in-laws extra delicious bbq smokey Turkey!
#329 is my Poultry Pinot.
Daughter and family are fantastic hosts, we bring very little and eat very much.
Great grandfather Scott should NOT get too very awfully sloppy in front of the family.
Hence, 375ml thermos “Iron Flask”. No problems?
No one else there drinks any booze, go figure?
0.5 bottle with the family.
Then,
0.5 bottle when I get home.
A nice 5 mile backroad drive.
Then I may get sloppy incognito……
Yum!
We brought Cranberry wine, Cranberry wine, Cranberry sparkling wine and Cranberry-Apple sparkling juice.
Saw a bottle of OG N.100 on the counter; must have come from my cellar…
Hope I wasn’t too forward/obvious with my desire to drink it. We did.
Happy Thanksgiving all.
OG N.124 2018 Napa Valley Merlot
One hour decant. 4+ years in the bottle.
It’s been 6 months and now it’s coming along nicely! it still could age well with more cellar time. Note to self, have one about every 3 months (12b remaining).
Nice, full bodied and luscious. Powerful acid & tannins. Nose is beginning to open nicely with air, giving it some additional bottle age for the nose to open up more.
One plus Yum +, solid wine currently, improvement expected in the fullness of time. Said to be Freemark Abbey from the Stagecoach Vineyard. Wow! $180/case is such a deal. Worthwhile to age this big semi-beastly Merlot, it may become a beauty?

Now that the grandkids have left, I’m enjoying sipping on the Ch. St. Marie Entre Deux Mers which I intended to serve with shrimp apps on Thanksgiving, but the crowd opted for a second sparkler (La Res. De Germain). The Entre Deux Mers is deliciously crisp with lemony acidity, salinity, & minerality. It has a long, tingling finish that keeps one sipping along. The semillon/muscadelle roundness only appears after the wine warms. It would have been perfect with shrimp.
The Res. Germain, however, was also perfect. What a fantastic value at $20-34. The 2011 J Schram did outshine it in depth & complexity, but it wasn’t 4-5 times better.
After family and guests left Thanksgiving afternoon:
- 2019 de Négoce Pinot Noir OG N.70-D - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains (11/28/2024)
Popped and poured over 2 evenings. Compared to Blend C, a bit darker in color and overall, a bit "sturdier" in fruit and tannins. More length in finish too. Blend D has been my favorite of these 4 blend clonal cuvees. "B" being the weakest for my tastes. This bottle showed better on 2nd evening after consuming OG N.24 Carneros PN with family for Thanksgiving meal. (90 points)

Hit the offsite storage locker earlier this week to shift some bottles around and refill the fridge at home. Took home a few dN wines that have been sitting for a couple of years - 43, 192, 227, and 253. Broke into the 227 last night and tonight. Pretty killer deal for $20/bottle. Wish it had a bit more structure, but I’m not complaining for the price. I stopped buying from dN around offer 350 or so (early last year). Interested to see if I missed any heavy hitters in the interim
Because of family birthdays, Thanksgiving is generally postponed until the following Saturday (right smack-dab at the beginning of some great college football rivalry games). Never-the-less, by request from a nephew, this was a honey-glazed HAM & Cornish hen holiday meal accompanied by L 345 Clare Valley 2022 Riesling (89 pts) and Lot 269 Spring Mountain 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon. Perfect, ~ not an over the top wine selection for such a family affair. Though elegantly powerful, it was well rounded with beautiful subtle berry tastes which enjoyably accompanied the prepared meal. I’d suspect this selection is better than Cam’s $60 a bottle pricing. 91 pts / ‘A’
Hi Tim, funny follow up our notes on N.70-A, I left the last glass in the bottle (vacuvin stopper) for another 3 or more days and forgot about it. Opened a N.68 CS and N.18 malbec for company last night and figured for grinns would taste the leftover N.70-A (super light) Pinot. It actually held up and I would say gave up a bit more fruit on day 5. Still nothing overly exciting, but a nice glass.
Ar this point- I am going to put the rest of my N.70 pinots away for a few years as an experiment…
How was the #68?..
I had this a few days ago, I think that #68 is ready to rock:
4+ years in the bottle. ~#9 of 30, PnP. This seems very ready for me, this is one for me to drink every 1-2 months, until gone, not really to cellar much longer. I have plenty more. This is elegant and balanced. This IS restrained and not over the top, again, nicely balanced! One Yum. DAY 2 - seems rather tired to me. Drinking it up!

OG N.119 2018 Chalk Hill Syrah
4+ years in the bottle. #2 of only 2 PnP.
If I didn’t know any better, I would guess that this was a perfectly refined Petite Sirah. The nose has that awesome peppery character that I find in my favorite Petite Sirahs. Delightful in every single way.
Wish I had 6 more. Ready to drink now. Double Yum for me.

Thank you Scott for suggesting pulling out our second of twenty-four OG N 119 Chalk Hill 2018 Syrah (sale price $132 case, second case $80 / 40% OFF ~ remember those special days?). Your overview was almost correct, except for my considering this selection now being a double+ Yum. Easily 91 pts today. Cameron Hughes noted this as '. . . will age beautifully over the next decade’.
