What Cigar or Pipe Are You Smoking?

Caldwell The King is Dead in the humi for 2 months
Very enjoyable. Balanced and subtle. Cold draw is pure milk chocolate. The first third shows a lot of cinnamon cream. Some wood and leather. Mild flavors but full bodied. Later on, the flavors put on weight but it continued to be easy smoking. Long after taste. = A

Room 101 Ichiban Maduro - Purchased March 2020
@ $2.00 this is a great easy mild/medium Maduro. Not a lot of complexity but very smooth and no off-flavors. A SUPER and, inexpensive cigar by Room 101.

Saga Solaz Gordo

5 months in the humidor. Hay on the foot and cold draw. The 58 ring makes for an easy draw and lots of smoke. Starts off with pepper and toasted oak, finishing with dusty earth. As the pepper fades, hay and cedar notes appear. The ash is light and flakes off. The burn is slow and straight. Spice notes, some nuttiness and occasional sweetness round out this two hour smoke. Smooth and light, almost medium towards the end as some pepper returns. Very good.

Montecristo H2000 Buena Fortuna

Six months in the humidor. Light tobacco aroma on the foot and pepper on the cold draw. The first half was bland and peppery. Light notes of coffee, natural tobacco and occasional sweetness to tone down the pepper. The ash was solid and smoke was thin. The second half featued more smoke, some kitchen spices, heat from the pepper and some bitterness. Might go well with a sweet mixed drink but not very well with water.

I was going to have an Esteban Carreras Covenant Maduro but of course, the one I pick from the box stove pipes and canoes after a half inch. Carrie brought me a My Father La Opulencia that burns perfectly and is loaded with flavor.

Farce Connecticut, ~3 months in humi. V cut. Just re-loaded last night as I am running low on these, the more I smoke them the more I enjoy them. Great balance, clean long finish, roasted nuts/light fruit flavors, some mint on finish, perfect burn, ~80-90 minutes smoke. Easily a match for anything at 3-5 times the cost, and then some. Not my usual preference of full on Nicaraguan leaf, but delivering a medium body and full flavor palate. Along with Oliva V and DPG Black my “multi-box order” now.

Highly recommended.

Balmoral Paso Doble Robusto

In the humidor for three months. A collaboration between Royal Agio and La Flor Dominicana. Barnyard and fruit aromas on the foot. Earth and hay on the cold draw. Starts out with wood and pepper settling to creamy cedar, earth and mild pepper on the finish. The profile slowly changes to roasted nuts, caramel notes, kitchen spices and a hint of black fruits. The spices become more prominent and the caramel becomes toffee like as the cigar nears the end. Perfect burn and solid ash. Made my socks roll up and down.

A. J. Fernandez New World Gobernador Toro Maduro

Six months in the humidor. Barnyard on the foot with some fruitiness on the cold draw. Starts out heavy and strong. Oak and pepper dominate through the first half of the cigar. Hints of espresso start to show through and some sweetness is countering the pepper. Some kitchen spice and fleeting cocoa notes join in at the end of the second third and the nicotine level is noticeable. I put on my seatbelt. Some pepper returns at the nub. Overpowering for me.

Classic today with a Monte 2

I think that Monte has some of the best aromatics/room notes. Smell one and I want a cigar.

A. J. Fernandez New World Connecticut Toro

Since the New World Maduro kicked my butt yesterday I’ll try a milder New World. Three months in the humidor. Hay on the foot and mild tobacco on the cold draw. Cream, cedar and mild kitchen spices, with real light pepper on the finish. Burn is straight, the draw perfect, solid ash and lots of smoke. There are notes of natural tobacco occasionally and some sweetness is building a third of the way in. The cigar stays smooth with some changes in spice profile and some increase in stength and flavor profile intensity but not quite to medium. Real good slow smoker.

I love that cigar. For my current batch of 20 I paid $3.00 a stick, all in.

Southern Draw Kudzu 2 months in the humidor.
I’ve grown fond of Southern Draw. Big and bold but not overwhelming. Hints of an aged Right Bank red. = A-

Casdagli (Bespoke) Traditional
Under the new Casdagli label. Cold draw of sweet earthy flavors. Flavors are mild and developed. Non spicey white pepper, with coffee and cream. Nice sweetness. A great cigar that smokes slowly. Set aside more time than you might expect. = A-

Montecristo No. 2 Dominican Torpedo

Don’t have a Habano, but Phil’s post made me want one, even if it is Dominican. In the humidor at least three years. Cedar aroma on the foot and leather on the cold draw. Smooth and creamy with cedar, leather, sweet vanilla notes, kitchen spices, notably cinnamon and mild pepper on the finish. About medium strength with lots of flavor.

Villager 1888 Corona Natural

Six months in the humidor. Barnyard aroma on the foot, black tea on the cold draw. It has a core flavor of roasted nuts with regularly changing notes of coffee, tea, caramel, hay, dark fruits and salt. There is light pepper at the finish. Mild to almost medium with a good draw and solid ash. Very good smoke.

Ashton Maduro Pyramid

At least six months in the humidor. Barnyard and chocolate aromas on the foot, raisins on the cold draw. Starts out with rich coffee, cedar and pepper. The coffee fades and semi-sweet dark chocolate moves to the forefront. The room note is choclate. Notes of molasses, kitchen spice and dried red fruits round out the profile with mild pepper on the finish. Medium strength and loads of flavor.

Alec Bradley Prensado Lost Art Gran Toro

Nine months in the humidor. Leather on the foot and cold draw. Starts out heavy with wood and pepper. Takes an inch to settle with creamy nuttiness, cedar, occasional notes of chocolate and some sweetness. The burn is uneven requiring three touch ups in the first half. The pepper subsides revealing some kitchen spice, roasted nuts and leather. The room note is reminiscent of the malted milk balls candy. After one more touch up, the burn is straight, the draw is improved and amount of smoke has increased. The cigar reached its zenith at the two thirds mark with cocoa, sweet cedar, cinnamon and leather. Pepper is very mild at the finish. Full body and strength so probably a cigar for experienced smokers.
