Very interesting! New to me. I have been using Picaridin.
DEET is really stinky stuff! I keep it in plastic. Actual Catnip is not very aromatic, yet pleasant smelling.
Picaridin is generally preferred for its pleasant feel, lack of odor, and safety around synthetic gear. DEET is a strong chemical that can melt plastic! Yikes!
DEET is very unpleasant. So are mosquitoes. I’ll look into catnip oil.
Tell that to the Alaskan mosquitoes.

I want to go back to the days when wines like lot 35 were $8.25 shipped. Dude, why is that wine so freakin tasty. Also…i’m now googling catnip oil.

About a year in bottle i think?
Meaty violets, leather and black cherry bouquet
Deep ruby with garnet rim.
Plush and juicy mouthfeel touch of vanilla or brown sugar.
Fine tannins mostly integrated for a med long finish.
Easy drinker but fuller bodied.
I prefer cabs mainly, but figured i’d try this out being it was marketed as more approachable compared to other lots. Not sure its worth 25 at current bottle shop price though when compared to other lots like lot 5(one of my faves) or lots 3, 24,25,27,40. So if your’re gonna try it buy it on sale and note no cab in this blend.

glad you liked it…I cracked a bottle last week myself and thought it was really drinking well. More open knit structure..one of the more approachable 2023’s bdx reds for sure.

That is nothing, Florida has more than 80 species of mosquitoes, including the “gallinipper” (Psorophora ciliata), which is widely described as the largest biting mosquito in the United States. Not to mention the noseeums.

Made a little Beef Bourguignon or maybe I should call it Oakville Beef. Having a get together before our Bordeaux cruise and also doing a tasting tomorrow with some Calistoga petite sirah and this fit the bill perfectly for an appetizer. Going to make little individual pies out of the dish similar to a British beef and ale pie.
Oh and this bottle tasted fantastic, the last one I had must have just been a one off.

2023 Lot 25 Calistoga
Last opened a bottle in February. Poured into the decanter and instantly the room was filled with Napa Valley fruit. Seems to be picking up a little bit of complexity, velvety with some black pepper on the finish. Still can’t comprehend how this was $20. Cheers everyone!

Opened Lot 25.2 Calistoga cab tonight. One hour in decanter and it was ready to roll. I don’t taste a difference between the first lot 25 and this second 25. Delicious!
