My last purchase from the mailing list was $385 for the 2019 vintage. I don’t remember the pricing from the latest offering but believe it was along those same lines.

Here’s another 09’ Burg data point Brodie:

Night 1: This wine seemed a little tired, possibly past it’s prime the first night. (On Coravin)

Night 2: Fresh, deep and delicious. All that red cherry-meets-iron-and-dirt I associate with Gevrey, especially Fourrier.

Go figure. I’ve had this experience more than once with Jean-Marie’s wine; like a rustic sleeping beauty, it sometimes needs more than one kiss (of air) to fully wake up.

To quote the mantra of his oeno-omniscience @Mike_EvansA wine isn’t dead until its aerated and dead”.

92 for me and high on my personal pleasure meter. Drink up!

2023 William Fevre Domaine Chablis
First glass of our first bottle of 2023 after enjoying many 2022 bottles over the past couple of years. This seemed “dialed down”, almost even delicate, but still a pleasant enjoyable wine. Saline and lemon fruit predominate. Acid is low wattage. But very well balanced. Stays in the background with the meal of cod. But as long as you don’t have a fixed Chablis exemplar in mind, this is still a pretty good wine.

Ridiculously, lip-smackingly delicious. I wrote, and lost, a super detailed tasting note. Rats! So this is all you get!

2021 Savoy mondeuse and comte to go with some writing (that wasn’t about mondeuse). Kind of like a Beaujolais-ified Rhone syrah; it was fruity and peppery and not weighty but was pretty good company. Really nice for the $25 it ran me.

2023 Littorai Sonoma Coast Chard.

Lovely and elegant.

I don’t have much enthusiasm for still rose as a category, but damn, this is delicious! Dense and concentrated, textured, citrus and salinity, and an acid driven finish with a bit of length and spice. I have some Rose Sekt from Steinmetz coming in the fall and this makes me believe it might compete with a high quality rose Champagne.

Today’s theme was Burgundy to celebrate a group member’s birthday. All of the wines were very good at the least. My favorites were the stunning 2011 Boillot, the Rousseau, and the Meo, but it’s splitting hairs. The Faiveley showed pleasant hints of menthol but no off putting greenness and was quite impressive. The Odoul-Coquard was also excellent. The Fourrier needed time for the palate to catch up with the exquisite aromas, but is still a little closed, I think.

The Bichot Nuits white was rich but balanced, I guessed Corton-Charlemagne and never would have gotten to NSG. It was richer than the Drouhin, but the Drouhin was a little more well-knit. I wasn’t very impressed with Olivier Leflaive in the 1990s and haven’t had much since then, but this one was good, with my guess as a Grand Cru Chablis.

2017 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore

Bottle purchased at the winery during a visit and tasting in 2023 and enjoyed with roasted NZ lamb chops. Good balance, good fruits and detected some spice - very enjoyable with the food.

Decided to cap the week with my first 2022 Distenta White IV and to try it with the new arrivals from Glasvin of the Carafe and the Kane.

The wine is amazing, lots of honey and stone fruits, definitely one of the best white I’ve had in a while.

The Glasvin stuff was also great. The carafe is super practical, I could decant the wine and keep it upright in the fridge door which I love, and the Kane is a lovely, lovely glass. The customer service is also great from David - previously I had ordered some Fu’s that unfortunately broke in transit, but all was handled perfectly.

How long a decant did you give it?

About an hour - and enjoyed it over the next 2. Last glasses were better than the first ones so that’s either the alcohol talking or it can handle more air. Probably a bit of both!

The 14 Rousseau was showing well? I haven’t had a 14 in awhile.

I think of wines like that needing a lot of air, so im not too surprised. Thanks.
