Still fairly primary, but on the third day, this was actually quite lovely, excellent typicity.
Good list! I’m a big fan of Leirana. I also had some good Dominio de Tares Pazo Piñeiro
2023 Project M Personify Pinot
Young but very enjoyable right out of the gate. Fruity, earthy, some light chalky tannins.
This is far too easy to drink. Redcurrant, strawberry and red cherry with just enough tannin and acidity to round it out.
50% Nero 50% Zinfandel
Fresh fruit and acidity, hints of blackberry and dark plums. Very easy to drink.
Raats makes the best new world CF. Period!
This is a very big, rich Roilette but not in the way of the 2018. This has enough structure and acidity to carry the scale, though for my taste, the 2021 and the 2017 are both head and shoulders above it. I will say this will be a major crowd pleaser and an excellent gateway wine to the beauties of Beaujolais. Big sappy dark fruits, cloves and spice, and some interesting red citrus notes on the back end. An intoxicating smoky spicy nose.
I’ve opened 2 of my Perlegos reds from BD and was pleased with both. Definitely easy to drink.
Yes they are. I haven’t tried the cinsault yet, will definitely buy from them again
2001 Quilceda Creek cabernet sauvignon for tonight’s campaign-ending DnD session.
Some absolute bangers last night. Here’s a few. Maybe a full post later.
'14 Cabotte was lights out.
I didn’t take notes, but here’s a full list of last night’s debauchery hosted by @Steve_McL, with wonderful contributions from @dcornutt, @Dennis_Atick, @bradkaplan, and @RKatz. Unfortunately the Leroy was both corked and swampy but the rest of the wines were showing from well to great, though the 2014 Bouchard Chevalier Cabotte and 2022 Mugnier Amoureuses were extraordinary. The Ramonet was a stunner as well. I correctly identified the producer but thought it was a Chassagne Premier Cru.
Thanks for the pics to bring the night back into focus. It was a pretty good Tuesday ![]()
The Ramonet was great, until the Cabottes came along. And the two Amoureuses- Mugnier is a wow. Another great night in the books.
*is curious…checks online for price on 2022 Mugnier Amoureuses…closes laptop and stares into middle-distance for an hour contemplating poor life choices.
One of the many things I love about our intrepid group is that the flight of the Chevillon, Drouhin Mouches, and Fourrier got as much attention and appreciation as the Grand Cru flight, which it deserved as they were each excellent in their own ways.
I don’t like you guys cheating with these semi-posts ![]()
Say it with your Chests, ATL! Long notes & Vibes, pls. Set a scene ![]()
I’m particularly interested in this. I like Mouches with age and 2016 is a birthyear wine but I have read differing opinions. I’ve never had great access to Drouhin in my market (thus, I don’t own any) so would have to go the auction or other secondary route.
I thought it was very good, drinking well but with ample structure to age.
This 2022 Roilette has picked up some meatier tones with some minerality expressions on this second night. Again, I’d still take 2021, but I’m liking this even more.
