What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

I did a pop-and-pour, and while it was certainly enjoyable right out of the bottle, it clearly benefited from some air. With more time in the glass, it began to open up and show greater depth and nuance. A proper decant—an hour or even two—would likely help

Yes, those cheese mites do a good job. Are you in the eat the rind (and live mites with it) camp, or you rather scrape them off?

I’m selective in my rind eating. Mimolette is a no.

The ‘05 in that volnay Carnot is a stunner.

My niece’s wedding. Needed a proper sized bottle to toast the newly weds. The Roederer Methuselah did the trick. The bar staff did an awesome job pouring it, too bad about the glassware. The champagne was perfect for the occasion

2021 Turnbull Leopoldina Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, delicious, just needed to decant for sediment but drinking great right away. Great on the nose and flavors of cherry, blackberry, and cassis. Had it with stuffed pork chops :face_savoring_food:

Adi Badenhorst Family Wines Raaigras Grenache 2016
This is drinking well right now with a balanced and delicate nose of strawberry, fresh plums and florals. The palate is nicely put together, lively with powdery tannins and a decent finish. A good bottle of Grenache. The only caveat is a little hint of heat on the finish (even though this is labeled 12.5%).

I drank the bottle but did not walk on the road. I was not killed.

2019 Janzen Beckstoffer To Kalon cabernet.

Much more than I usually pay, but I’d had the opportunity to taste this stuff before purchasing 3 bottles a couple of years ago (split a 6-case with a buddy).

Magnificent. Long, long, long. Fruit bomb indeed, but yet extremely well balanced with ample tannins and acid. Blackberry, plum, vanilla, caramel, cedar, mint. I’ve certainly tasted more complex wines, but few more enjoyable ones. 96 points.

2017 Wilde Farm Bedrock Vineyard

Tannins mostly resolved. More blue fruited than the Bedrock Heritage. Still much fruit, pretty primary. Could use more acidity. My wife loved it. This is my last Wilde Farm wine.

This has improved notably since the last bottle I had. I love the expressive nose on this: mint/menthol, hoisin, cedar, leather, a touch of tar. Savory in the mouth, with varied red fruits and a supple texture. Impressive.

Popped this last night for dinner with a few friends and it showed great. Nice tropical fruits, well balanced, really enjoyable SB.

very good last night, despite it’s blatant youth. Simon Colin is coming on.

Never hopeful for my 1965 vintage but this is doing well

My favorite Albariño of all time. Too bad the price has skyrocketed.

Have you tried a Raul Perez Atalier ‘A Cruz Animas’ Albarino? It’s real good IMHO.

It’s also very good, but will not age as well as the Do Ferriero. We just had a nice 2021, but our 2019s are not as vibrant as before.

Other favorites include Zarate, Leirana, Pazo de Señoráns Selección de Añada

The 1965 Louis Martini Cab is quite nice.
