Opened a few bottles with the neighbors after some home work.
Gonon Saint-Joseph Blanc 2019 was the standout: Marsanne in that perfect spot right now⊠pear, quince, a touch of almond and this salty, bitter-citrus finish that kept pulling me back.
Bachelet Bourgogne 2021 was pure silk. Cool-vintage red fruit, super transparent, classic Bachelet charm even at entry level.
Champagne HĂ©lĂšne BdB Grand Cru kicked things off with clean citrus, chalk and a really fine mousse. Easy, crisp, no-brainer aperitif

Vignerons de Buxy Givry 1er Cru Clos Jus 2017
Some good TNs on this early on made me buy a few. First one I had was in July 2021, and it was disjointed with candied red berries taking center stage. Tonight with roasted chicken, green beans and squash fries, this was singing. Red berries, all kinds of autumn spices and earthy herbal tones on the nose. Very well balanced palate with plenty of crunchy red berries (cranberries, cherries, griottes), good concentration on the mid-palate with spices picking up and a totally decent finish carrying the spices and earthy tones. Fine tannins showing up just enough to add density. For 22 USD, this is pretty much what you want to serve people looking to get into red Burgundy without breaking the bank.

Jeremy Carteret Les Petales Blanches Rully Blanc 2024
Without doubt a fine bottle of wine, well balanced, with depth and length, demanding attention. But there is nothing Cote Chalonnaise/Rully, or even Chardonnay about it. I didnât know what I had in the glass and assumed it was a classy Sancerre, also in the fridge. 85 eur.

We actually opened this 5 days ago, and double decanted it, leaving the bottle open as we are traveling and didnât bring a decanter. Served it last night after dinner with Japanese friends in Kanazawa and it was glorious. Ginger, chocolate, clove, savory notes, had that signature high acid and slight green tinge around the rim. Amazing stuff.
This was bottled in the 70s and recorked in early 2000s. Our rule of thumb is a dayâs decant for every decade in bottle, and that certainly held true in this case.

2014 Kutch Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
This is one of the wines that caused me to shift my focus from Cabernet Sauvignon to Pinot Noir.
This still has good fruit - cherry and a hint of blood orange, some apple skin. I get a bit of sarsaparilla, still some noticeable stem, a little black tea astringency. Spice including nutmeg, mace, Ceylon cinnamon.
QPR very strong.
There are a few beers I could drink day after day and this is a red wine equivalent.
Shepherd"s pie, mushroom (white) pizza, roast chicken. This would go well with all of those.

What a fantastic bottle of âold worldâ wine from Wendouree. At 25 years it is vibrant and intense and very long. Menthol, eucalyptus and earth on the nose. Palate is dark fruited with tons of structure, tannins are most resolved but still quite noticeable. Very long finish. Such a unique style and a vinous treasure from Clare Valley. Last bottle sadly

2023 Florence Cholet Bourgogne Cote dâOr Blanc
A basic white âVin de Bourgogneâ (not really). Complex, indecipherable, and delicious fruit profile. A hint of vanilla maybe from oak, but maybe from the fruit. Some nuttiness. Energy. A wine that encourages another sip. Wow!
Very recommended.

Not easy during hockey season to find time to sit down and enjoy a couple of bottles, but we have a window this evening so thought weâd enjoy something nice.
The nice on the Beze is incredible, rich blackberry, no sign of any green notes
