Had some fun last night:
2006 Ch. Magnot Saint-Emilion GC
2007 Ch. La Roque Pic Saint Loup (100% old vine mourvedre!!)
2009 Brand Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley
2009 Colene Clemens Victoria
A neighbor’s private label 2011 Rose. Sweet and delicious on a warm night - and a great reminder that it’s what is in the glass, not who-made-it-from-which-famous-vineyard. I am sooooo tired of that.
New neighbor friends came over, so we opened a few bottles:
1996 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (unfortunately a bit cooked)
2007 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
2004 Jean Edwards Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard
Actually I had 2 pretty good Bloody Marys with a former baby sitter, and then later determined my 91 year old dad likes perfect Manhattans. I really wanted to open one of the grower Champagnes I haven’t open myself yet, but that wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun.
Went to a friend’s party last night, here’s what we opened:
1996 Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Demi Sec - insanely good.
2010 Domaine de la Chignardiere Gamay Rose (Loire - VdP) - on a hot day, this was the prefect drink
2007 Beaux Freres The Beaux Freres Vineyard Pinot - solid, light body, had what felt like a touch of effervescence though.
2003 Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir - I’m calling this prem-oxed. And possibly corked.
2010 Colene Clemens Pinot Noir - this was nice, but the weather was too hot to enjoy it properly
'05 Newton Unfiltered Chard…this was ok, but I was hoping that the oak had integrated a little more…this actually drank better on release…
'90 Ducru-Beaucaillou…nice but nothing special…actually diapointing considering that it’s been in the cellar for 18 years…worked with the NY stips…but I’m wanting…
