What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 1)

Checked to see how well the 2009 Ketcham Estate RRV Pinot Noir is evolving and deciding what will go with tonight’s late dinner of mozzarella sticks and dipping sauces of Ranch dressing, marinara and BBQ. I’m think a Flux or Gamba Zin.

Tonight with my Dad and his wife 2006 Travaglini Vendemmia Gattinara. Young but very yummy in a peppery, dark red cherry and raspberry fruit kind of way!

Regular or Reserva??? Sounds interesting.

2010 J.J. Vincent Marie Antoinette Pouilly Fuisse.

2004 Pegau Reservee (much more primary than our last bottle a year ago) and a 2008 SQN Kolibri (Roussanne/Viognier) (very nice showing - alcohol not intrusive (big change from a year plus ago), geat aromatics and oily on the palate)

I took a 2009 LWC Durell to a casual dinner at our tennis club. Beef kabobs and grilled chicken thighs were on the plate and went well with that BIG Pinot.

On Friday we popped:
2002 Cave de Chante-Perdix Condrieu
2003 San Biagio Barolo

The Condrieu was amazing. One of the most fascinating whites I’ve tasted in a long time, up there with the Vignetti Massa Timorasso I had a few weeks ago.

The Barolo, despite being from a ripe year, had a lot of tannin and acidity left and still retained a powerful core of dark fruit and earth. And it was $22.

Regular. I got it for $29.99 at the NH state liquor store. Drank very nicely for a young Gattinara

Last night, celebrated an anniversary with some friends, opened:
2009 Shea Wine Cellars Chardonnay
2002 Chehalem Pinot Gris
2006 St. Innocent Pinot Blanc
1999 Peju Province Syrah
1991 Hillcrest Vyd Cabernet Sauvignon (Oregon)
2000 Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon
1999 Archery Summit Red Hills Estate

Pretty fun night. The whites were all disappointing. The Shea was over-ripe and too high in alcohol, the other two whites were oxidized pretty badly. The 91 Hillcrest Vyd was over the hill and reeking of brett. I loved the Peju, it had a silky, complex texture that I couldn’t get enough of. The Leonetti was the best bottle I’ve ever had from them, but then again I’m not usually a fan of those wines. The Archery Summit was gorgeous, still had lots of life left but was a glorious wine. Ranks up there with the '99 Argyle Nuthouse Rsv I had recently as some of the best Oregon pinot I’ve ever tasted.

Last night we enjoyed a red 2002 Chassagne=Montrachet from Chateau de Maltroye, with our dinner of spicy mixed seafood in Alfredo sauce on Saffron Fettucine. Then we had the second half of the bottle with frites dipped in tarragon mayonnaise while watching the Tour de France in Belgium.

08 Lagier Meredith Syrah. Damn was it good.

yesterday

01 H Boillot Corton Charlemagne-premoxed

05 Peter Michael Ma Belle Fille

2009 Paul Hobbs Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir. If its this good now, I wonder how good it would be 5, 10 or more years.

1983 Hospices de Beaune Beaune 1er Cuvee Guigone de Salins.

Really Yummy

Last night we had a nice fruity 1997 Grgich Hills Chardonnay with our soup.

Don’t know if this counts since it’s work, but our salesman brought the 2009 Lucques Rouge by Pax Mahle for us to try. Pretty quaffable and nicely balanced Grenache/Syrah-blend. The white will be on its way as well.

tonight with Jamie Olivers ‘dress the board’ steak - 2007 Skewis Montgomery Pinot Noir

2010 Copain Brosseau Syrah. It’s a juicy, leaner styled wine that is full of rocky mineral. Terrific.

1997 Jordan Cabernet, initial bell pepper that blew off, followed by a juicy start and dry dusty tannins on the end

1995 St. Clement Howell Mountain Cabernet. Enjoying it thoroughly.
