This example of the 2000 La Dominique [St Emilion] was uncorked in remembrance of Michel Rolland, who recently passed away. This bottle was better than a prior example from a year ago, and is a solid A on my card. 13% abv, medium bodied, the 80% merlot 20% cab franc blend shows sweet mulberry fruit today and a silky/sweet texture. I stood it up for a few days prior to consumption, as I did not decant, so there was some cloudiness/particulates in the final pour. It was so vibrant upon opening that I did not bother with putting half the bottle in a split for the next night, which was a touch optimistic. As lovely as this was, I think its better to consume these now. I looked up British wine journalist Stephen Brooks thoughts on this and he was very enthused about 1995 and 1998, and although he praises 2000’s attributes, finds the sum to be unexciting. Yet I loved this bottle, having held it since release.
