What BEER are you drinking? (Part 2)

I enjoy a Brother T from time to time. Great shirt.

I think their Old Rasputin is excellent. And their ā€œLa Merleā€ Saison is impressive, too.

Given the context of your question, I don’t think I’ve ever had an ā€œolderā€ one, as you use that term. However, over XMas, my dad did open a 2022 and a 2023 for me — they were great, and that’s exactly my sweet spot for them – about 2 to 3 years. Most of these BBAS develop a horehound candy type of sweetness with moderate age, and I don’t really like that. Then, after that, they develop strong wet cement mineral tones, and I like that even less. After 2 or 3 years, the harsh edge of its youth has been softened, but it still retains a somewhat bitter taste profile, and that’s the spot I like 'em at.

That John Courage ages magnificently. IMO, Bourbon County ages better than the Bell’s offerings.

Need the hive’s assistance here. SN Narwhal on draught here and listed as Imperial Double Stout.

This 500 ml pour $18 usd tonight with plunging dollar.

This tastes much more powerful than the bargain can of Narwhal I’d drink in my PNW days. Is this the same beer?

I’d think it has to be the same beer? Using double and imperial is just redundant. Great beer but that price…That said a pint of Narwhal is quite a pour!

Cicerone saw my post above and informed me Narwhal listed as Imperial/Doble Stout so as to not be redundant.

Can you expand?

I think they are commonly used interchangeably these days although I could also make an argument that they are two related but different styles.

Generally Imperial being drier with some IBU and double being modern US sweeter pastry with possible adjuncts ect.

Flying both flags seems odd though?

There’s a language barrier still but I think cicerone added the / (virgule?) to his electronic description board meaning either adjective describes that Stout.

At $18/pint I’m not rerunning last night!

Damn good though.

I’m going to be in Mexico City in about a week. Any beers there worth searching for?

Falling Piano, Cyprez tasting room, Drunkendog, CervecerĆa Morenos all good.

Not sure who the target market is for this abomination…

I wonder how much these will be selling for on eBay in a few years.

Just got delivery of 12 Dark Lager from my very hop forward local producer Pok Ta Pok.

Looking forward to lunch.

This is absolutely disgusting. IMO, there is nothing positive about this, and it sets back brewing culture. This is primarily a Columbia Sportsware trying to edgy thing, but it’s still disgusting.

Agree! I’m not surprised by Columbia’s involvement, but am very befuddled by Breakside’s.

Enjoying Mexico City

There is a bourbon barrel aged version as well. Maybe you had that.
