What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?

I did drink it on the warmer side, a busy day and didnt get it cooled till later than planned. It might have loosened it some.

Totally - not doubting your experience at all. Just funny how bottles can show so differently.

2018 Bedrock Old Hill Ranch. Amazing how much the Grenache adds aromatically. There are still some definite tannins that could use time but for me an amazing wine tonight. Such a great balance of tannins, acidity and a hint of Grenache sweetness.

Couple of notes on this, one a bit old but my impressions were the same last night. Psyched to have a couple more 750s and a mag.

Killer bottle. Cork was dry and broke in half, despite excellent storage, but the wine was more than sound. Decanted an hour before service and followed over the next two. We don’t drink much Cab and our tastes generally lean much lighter but we loved this. Ample, perfectly ripe, red and black berry fruit, great texture and mouthfeel, and nice spice accents. Has a long way to go and will continue to improve.

Another phenomenal bottle. Open one now if you have multiples, the fruit is layered and luscious but still fresh. It will develop and gain tertiary elements but will it get better? I’m not sure.

2008 Kick Ranch Syrah.

This is drinking really well with deep, savory blackberries, pepper, and a hint of bacon fat on the medium-length finish. Fully integrated but it feels like it should hold at this level for quite a while. Good stuff
and I’m admittedly not the biggest syrah fan.

Anyone have the 2019 Enz lately? Might pop that soon.

2018 Papera was bopping last night.

Boy I wish I had more of this.

Popped a 21’Sky Vineyard. It’s had some air in a carafe for about 4 hours. Not your typical Zinfandel, definitely some darker mountain fruit profile. It’s absolutely tasty. I almost want to use to word brambly on the finish. I think these bottles deserve more time sideways but a nice and unique flavor profile.

Any insight into what wines will be on the next release?

2013 Evangelho Heritage: I’ve been purchasing Bedrock wines since the 2011 vintage, and the 2013 vintage is the only one I have not enjoyed. Across the board, it has been difficult to get through the huge tannin wall with these wines, so I have let them age to see if that will dissipate. It has been about five years since I last tried a 2013, and given the positive comments on the board, I opened the 13 Evangelho.

Well, this bottle was still pretty tannic on opening. I decanted - after about 30 minutes I gave it a go and the tannins were still big, and did not really dissipate to let other flavors thru. I let it sit in the decanter for a day, and day 2 the tannins were largely resolved - the wine had lots of dark fruit, although I think the profile was a bit different than my experience with other Evangelhos. Much better than my prior experiences with 13s, but I think the 13s can sit for a while yet or give lots of air before drinking. (I was looking at the back of the bottle, which says it should be enjoyed “now-2020”).

Had a mini 2018 flight tonight. May be a legendary vintage in 10 years but it really isn’t favorite for drinking now.

Any notes on that late harvest Gewurzt? Was wondering when those would be close to ready!

It’s tasty and ready to go - showing some signs of middle age. Soft texture and barley sugar notes. I don’t feel like these are long agers. Not a ton of structure or acidity.

Hopefully you saw the save-the-date email, but just in case:

We’re excited to share that our spring release is coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

In the release will be the first white and rosĂ© from 2025: Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Ode to Lulu RosĂ©, along with a couple aromatic white wines from 2024: Wirz Vineyard Riesling and Alta Vista GewĂŒrztraminer.

On the red side, we have the 2024 Sonoma County Cab and a lineup of old vine gems: the 2024 Evangelho ‘Areio e Vento e Amor’ super-cuvee from Frank’s favorite block at Evangelho, 2024 Papera Ranch Heritage, 2024 Teldeschi Heritage, 2024 Sky Zinfandel, 2024 Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and our “Ode to Joel” wine, the 2024 Buffalo Zinfandel.

I’m looking forward to some Wirz Riesling and Sonoma County SB. On the reds, Papera is one of my favorites from Bedrock, so definitely a few of those.

The release podcast is such a game changer. Think I’ve listened to every one since they started putting them out. The only problem is I tend to add a few extra bottles based on their feedback :joy:
