What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?

Totally agree, and Sky for sure, I’d give it more time. Of course I will fail, and fail miserably, but that then allows my intellectual self to chastise my jock self, in the third person, and call him dumb.

I’m declaring it now.

2013 Bedrock Heritage is lights out killer, best vintage of this wine.

I’m declaring, that I’m un-declaring Robert’s claim that the 13 is the best Bedrock Heritage vintage.

It is in fact, an excellent vintage. Probably top 5 currently. But the best vintage has already been declared to be 2008, followed closely by 2009.

That said…i declare that i would happily drink the 13 any freaking day of the week with you my friend!

You and I drinking together would be dangerous. I’m looking forward to it. And you could be right, the 2008 is wonderful and it is when I started drinking this winery. That was my first experience with bedrock. As Sade eloquently crooned, it’s never as good as the first time. But, 2013 is level up.

We’re gonna make it happen my man! And agreed…it won’t be for the faint of heart, ha!

Sounds like i need to open a 13 soon. Will work on that for sure

We had the 2014 Evangelho on Christmas night and it was really delicious with our grilled prime rib. It’s still on the young side for my taste, and probably better in 3-5 years.

2011 Saitone Ranch Zinfandel.

This is drinking really well right now with bright raspberry puree, baking spice, and substantial acidity. Medium bodied and fully integrated. Good stuff - drink within the next few years to catch this at its peak.

2020 Under The Wire Alder Springs Pinot Meunier: No formal notes based on the setting but this was some seriously great domestic bubbles. Consistent in quality with some other UTW I have tried but this was probably my favorite to date. Compared to an alder Chardonnay this was just slightly more plush and round. I’m really liking these Alder Springs bottles! (95 pts)

anyone have a sneak preview or inside info on this years ode to lulu? Last years was great, year prior a touch sweet, wondering how this years is shaping up…

Opened a 2020 Bedrock Heritage Bedrock Vineyard tonight. I usually don’t drink this bottling this young but for some reason I decided to bring it south with me. And I am very happy I did. Lots of acidity on PnP but quickly balances out into a very balanced wine with lots of lift and a great combination of fruit and savory aspects.

I am debating between a 2020 Evangelho or a 2020 Esola to serve alongside oven baked St Louis pork ribs prepared with a basic rub and barbecue sauce. Any strong opinions either way?

AI also suggested a 2020 Bedrock Heritage but I’m thinking I hold onto that one a bit longer.

I had the 2020 Esola last October and it was fully ready to rock. I’ve found Esola to be one of the better earlier drinkers in the Bedrock stable in general…and maybe the only wine I’ve had from Morgan that i actually PREFERRED younger (2016 vintage).

That would be my choice for sure

I had the 2020 Bedrock Heritage last night (see post above yours). If you have multiple, it would work well on PnP with the ribs. If you only have one, holding it might make more sense since I think it has upside.

Hey Scott- Just posted the release newsletter on my substack which you can find here.

Just FYI, Lulu is always completely dry, don’t think there has been a year where it is over 1 g/l RS. Realize perception of sweetness and actual sweetness can be different but figured I would throw it out there.

That’s a very fair clarification to make. Appreciate the link to sneak preview of this year’s lulu. It sounds great! and much to the style I lean to.

Was the final acidity a bit higher in 2024 vs. 2023? The discussion around grenache vs. Carignane was interesting for the 25.

Hey Scott- This made me curious so I went back and looked. 2023 was 3.37 pH with a TA of 6.4, 2024 was 3.39 with a TA of 6.3, so almost identical. This year’s is 3.38 with a TA of 6.5. Interestingly too, just to show that the relation between pH and TA is not linear- the 2022 had a lower pH of 3.28 but also a lower TA of 5.9.

I was going to pull the trigger on the bag in box Old Vine Zin, but with shipping it worked out to over a $34/bottle cost equivalent. That seemed high.

Ground shipping is included. $290 divided by 12 is $24.17 (before tax) For Lulu or OVZ.

On mine it charged me $105 for shipping.

Maybe it defaulted to express vs. ground? Reach out to them, they’re always super quick to respond and fix the issue
