What are your oldest wines?

Come down to NYC and I’ll open it for you. definitely with some good Gruyere or Comte.

Oldest I own are some 1981 Lopez de Heredias, and then I have various 1983s. Oldest consumed is a port from the 30s, I think Dow and I can’t remember the exact vintage.

Other than Madeiras;1863,1885, 1910,1924,1933, etc, The oldest WINO in the Cellar IS ME ! [snort.gif] neener [shock.gif]

In my cellar, 1962 Ch. Gilette Creme de Tete. The oldest I’ve drunk are 1948 Taylor Port and 1953 Torres Gran Coronas.

There’s some seriously impressive collections here.

I have 5 bottles left from a case of wines from 1985 (birth year wines my parents bought for me): 4 different Bordeaux (Canon, L’Arrosee, Lynch Bages, and Leoville Barton) and a single bottle of Taylor port. After those, I think everything else is from this century.

Oldest wines I’ve drunk were a 59 Palmer, 63 Fonseca and 63 Taylor. I wished I remembered them all a little better but I have to admit that all I really remember is drinking them and liking them.

At one point I owned a 1929 Chateau De La Tour Clos Vougeot. Now a buddy of mine owns it [snort.gif]

Have a couple of bottles of '59 Calon Segur and a single bottle of '59 Beychevelle, all of which I’m looking forward to opening in the next year or so.

Oldest enjoyed was an 1875 Barbeito Madeira Malvasia Reserva that Jay Hack opened last year.

A far cry from your beloved Screagle…

Cheers!

'98 Dom, seriously.

Poker night?

Fortified:

Own 1908 D’Oliviera Bual
Tasted 1838 Madiera- don’t remember producer, too many wines at Bern’s

Non-fortified

Own 1959 Huet Moelleux Le Haut -Lieu
Tasted 1904 Lafite Rothschild

Currently, a 1935 Cappellano Barolo.

As a result of a relatively recent acquisition of the cellar of an older gentleman, I’ve got:

1929 Saint Patrice CNdP
A bunch of 50s Bdx (53/55/57) including some Latour and a few 60s Burgundies.
Separately I’ve got some 59 Loire sweet whites including a Huet and Moulin Touchais.

I can say having opened a bunch of the lesser wines (mostly 60s Bdx from middling properties) that while every older wine tells a story there have been a few that were too dead to enjoy. Even though it was not a great wine, there is, however, a thrill in having a glass of something like 1964 Chateau Tertre (Margaux) with dinner tonight.

1947 Borgogno Barolo.
1948 Cheval Blanc.
The oldest I currently own and purchased upon release is 1982 Haut-Brion.

Oldest I’ve ever tried is a 1921 Coutet. Oldest in the cellar is probably a 1976 Rieussec half that I just picked up.

Oldest I currently have is a 1881 Martinho Port.

I’ve had numerous (and still got a number of) old White and Red Burgs, Bordeaux and Sauternes from the '20’s - '40’s.

Had quite a few other wines in the past from the 1880’s-1920’s period also.

Am also part share in a number of old bottles to be consumed soon including an 1865 Bouchard, 1874 Lafite and more…

Oh, I forgot my '29 Ponsot Clos de la Roche.

Great Champagne! Many years left.

If you give Rudy a call, I’m sure he could turn that '48 Cheval into a '47 in no time!
