What wine or wines are you pouring for Christmas dinner, or if you celebrate another holiday this time of year, what will be (or was) your choice? I decided to find something with some sort of Christmas connection, so I chose the 2009 Rhys Family Farm Pinot. The connection is that the Family Farm vineyard used to be a Christmas tree farm. Actually I had been wanting to open a 2009 Rhys anyway, so this seemed like a good excuse.
1995 Grand Dame, 1982 Mouton, 1952 Dalva Golden White Colheita Port.
07 Selyem Forchini Vnyd Zin, 09 Double Diamond Bomber X so far…
I’m going to my parents and I’m not sure what I’ll bring to share, but it’s rumored my father will serve some 86 Lynch Bages and perhaps an 85 Pichon Lalande (birth year wine for me). I’m hoping the rumors are true
Rachel,
You’re younger than either of my kids. Last night was 2006 Chardonnay (Brick House, Cameron Close Electrique, Eyrie Reserve, DDO). Tonight was Sparkling (Clouex Reserve, R. Stuart Rose d’Or, 2001 Argyle Brut, Marie Courting Resonance) and Pinot (1988 Eyrie - fantastic, 2003 Eyrie Reserve, 2005 Brick House Dijonnais & Evelyn’s). Tomorrow we’ll do a Cameron vertical (2000, 2002 & 2003 Clos Electrique and 2002 Abbey Ridge) along with assorted beers (2009 Anchor Christmas & Abyss).

Nice! My birth year, 87, was pretty much crap in the wine world AFAIK.
The 86 Lynch Bages sounds delicious.
I am not sure what I’m opening for Christmas.
Right now, I am prepping for the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve and opened am 07 Realm The Falstaff.
Good juice. Not appropriate for a fish dinner but very appropriate for helping with the prep work.
We’re having the traditional Rib Roast, Yorkshire Pudding, etc.
Have always paired with Cabs and Bordeaux blends. Does anything else work well?
95 Pommery Brut and 05 Andrew Geoffrey Cab.
Starters: Delamotte Blanc de Blancs, Beaucastel 07 Rousanne VV
With tenderloin roast:
Some 10 year old Bordeaux Blends and Cabs (Hope to convince my guests that not all old world wines suck):
01 Ornellaia
01 Pavie
01 Pichon Baron
01 Dominus
Either 01 Insignia or 01 Shafer HSS (or maybe both if needed)
To finish, still trying to decide between 01 Yquem (staying with the 01 theme) or 1908 D’Oliveira Bual madiera. Need to check with wife about the dessert.
Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season.
Pierre Peters Blanc de Blancs and a couple vintages of Quilceda Creek. We are also having my father in laws homemade spiked egg nog.
I’m making two slow roasted stuffed turkeys for dinner and we’re pouring Stag’s Leap Napa Valley Chardonnay and Santa Cristina Chianti Superior as well as a trio of traditional Quebec ice ciders seeing as how I’m in Montreal. Happy Materialism Day everyone!
'92 and '02 Montelena Estate with a Prime rib roast.
07 Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Pinot and 08 Venge Sangiovese to pair with Citrus marinated pork rib roast.
Christmas eve dinner. filet of steak and a LDH Bosconia 1981. Delicious 93 points
Tomorrow, who knows. It’s duck, so Burgundy or Barolo likely.
2005 switchback ridge
2011 pappy 15
18 glenfiddich
Laphroaig
2009 rivers Marie Pinot
2005 loring Shea
Tonight our contribution was two bottles of the '04 Radio Coteau Savoy Vineyard Pinot; a bit of variation noted with both showing very nicely, but one with a bit more “brightness.” Tomorrow, we’ll contribute some '03 Brick House Les Dijonnais PN, a magnum of '87 Forman Cabernet, and the fantastic '72 Bodegas Toro Albala Montilla-Moriles Don PX Gran Reserva for dessert. Should be a fun dinner with what I am sure will be some great bottles from Marshall and Diana’s cellar as well.
Enjoy!
Andrew
1987 was not all bad! 1987 Silverado Cabernet was my “wine epiphany” many years ago.
Christmas Eve was 1998 St. Innocent Seven Springs Vineyard PN (awesome with the “Dickens Christmas Dinner” at Ned Ludd in PDX - particularly with a Pork Roast course).
Christmas Day will likely be either 1999 Brick House Dijonnaise PN or 2002 Sine Qua Non Hollerin M PN with Rack of Lamb.
While we are Jewish, and reason to eat and drink well is fair game!
Merry Christmas all!
Rib Roast with a 2000 Saint Pierre
Having a Flannery tonight so thinking o a 96 Fisher Lamb and a 82 Montelena.
Merry xmas everyone.
