What are you drinking for UFC tonight?

Me,

Not sure on the wines yet. I have a couple fat ribeye’s lined up but I know my buddy Jason and I are going to tackle an ultra-rare Blue Wax A.H. Hirsch Bourbon. Both to celebrate his new baby and my pending move to the O.C. Check it out. T-Bone, you out there?

If I have to watch UFC? Hemlock.

Clio

Boxing fan huh Bob?

Not since Ray Leonard retired, but UFC doesn’t qualify as “boxing” in my book. It’s a little closer to dog fighting for me.

Agree.

After Arturo died I bought the Gatti/Ward trilogy for 30 bucks. Now that’s boxing. How can you consider UFC a sport?

Phil…you moving to Orange County? I thought you were considering SAC

"…but I know my buddy Jason and I are going to tackle an ultra-rare Blue Wax A.H. Hirsch Bourbon."

I am so F’n jealous Dustoff. Nope, just Eagle Rare for me and some '07 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot. In a land with no TV, so will just have to wing it and get internet updates on UFC. Enjoy that 16 years old!

I have to say after watching UFC matches all day on Spike…this IS A GREAT SPORT!! I have never gotten that excited about UFC before but to see some of these guys fight…it’s amazing the amount of athleticism (sp?). I am a fan…this is why the sport is growing by the minute…

Btw…Drinking '95 Beringer Cab…nice but drink up soon!!

Phillip,
I know nothing about bourbon, but out of curiosity, is there a story behind the Hirsch?

Cheers,
-Robert

Robert, here is the story I can get off the internet:

A.H. Hirsch 16 year old was distilled in 1974 at the historical Michter’s Distilleryin Pennsylvania (awarded National Historic Landmark status in 1980). This Bourbon was celebrated as the only post‐Prohibition pot still Bourbon in America.

A perfect recipe of grain and rye, distilled in Michter’s small copper‐pot stills and 16 years of peaceful slumber in fine oak casks are the fundamentals that make A.H. Hirsch Reserve the magnificent spirit that it is. This is an icon of American Spirits that is uncompromising in quality, depth and individual character, and the first Bourbon to receive a coveted 5‐star spirit rating from F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal.

As for the bourbon they released a number of bottles from the old distillery.

AH Hirsch 16 year (1st release of this bourbon with a blue wax top)
AH Hirsch 16 year (1st release of this bourbon with a black wax top. export only)
AH Hirsch 16 year (2nd release of this bourbon with a gold wax top)
AH Hirsch 16 year (3rd release of this bourbon with a gold FOIL top and is the most readily available)
AH Hirsch 20 year (near impossible and has holy grail bourbon)
AH Hirsch 19 year (VERY limited and another holy grail bourbon)

We also had a few other bottles tonight:
