Westchester County - New York

Just had a decent dinner in Peekskill (which is close to me) at a restaurant called Apropos at the Abbey Inn. The grounds are quite beautiful and the restaurant has several rooms (partial view of Hudson)and a nice bar. It was pretty crowded on a Saturday night. The food we had was pretty solid (sea urchin, pasta/lamb ragout, sea bass, crispy chicken) and not overpriced. They were out of some dishes by the time we were seated. Corkage high at $45 but the wine list did not seem to have excessive mark up. Moderate size list with a large representation from Finger Lakes. Saw 2017 Tig at $140. Very nice farm to table restaurant that I will return to and probably bring friends.

Peter Kelly is a really excellent chef, but as his empire has gotten larger, he has far less time in the kitchen.

We had a couple of dinners at X2O and were underwhelmed.

Peter, I also ate here and was very impressed with the food as well. Glad you had a nice time

Tramonto - $25.00 Corkage, food is excellent

Good to hear it. I have not been there in years but they had the best broccoli rabe I have ever had and when I commented on it, the owner came over and taught me how to do it right.

Went to Harvest on Hudson and while their corkage is $35/btl, was able to negotiate it down to $20/per person for our group.

Great venue

I had written off Harvest several years ago; the views were spectacular, but the food was mediocre. Yesterday was a revelation. The food was excellent, and the service equally good. And the views, still good. We will be back.

The pizzas are very good, particularly the flor del basque

You need to get a real life. But while we wait for that unlikely event. I can report that corkage at MP Taverna is now $40, but the food, the service and everything else makes it worth it. Saturday night we had dinner for 5 adults and one 10 year old who ordered his share of food. Total bill including tax, two bottles corkage, and tip was under $100 per person.

The truth is, I forgot about this thread so I have not kept track of the corkage fee, but I have recently brought wine to the following, all with excelent food. Sonora in Portchester, Dubronvik in New Rochelle, Chat Masala in Irvington, O Mandarin in Hartsdale and Harvest on Hudson in Hastings on Hudson. My last trip to Mulinos in White Plains was disappointing, but they allow corkage and others like it, so maybe it was an off day.

X2O is closed. Replacement to open this summer.

The Cookery allows corkage but I think it is over-rated.

I will report bac k on more restaurants now that I remember that this thread exists.

BUT, by the way, corkage at my house is zero provided that the wine you bring is shared, and worth tasting.

Always enjoyed my meal there. I never brought wine because the margaritas are so good.

I think the best new restaurant I’ve tried in Westchester in last couple years is likely Talia in Port Chester. Had an excellent wine dinner (Vatan, F Cotat, Dagueneau) there last month upstairs - standout dishes were a salmon tart, roast oysters with guanciale, and cod cheek on squid ink risotto with spinach and uni. Went last night with my wife, again everything delicious (arancini with scamorza, fried artichoke hearts, duck, steak with kimchi butter, more).
The list is quite good, and unusually for Westchester has some mature stuff sprinkled in (some of the investors are wine guys and raided their cellars).
Corkage is $40 (which is fair for level of restaurant, I’d pay), but they’re willing to work with wine dinners.
Nice atmosphere.

Great thread, glad you brought it back to life. Talia has an owner who used to be a Berserker, I think… Or he was an Ebob guy… I might have to check it out.
