A new “farmers” market opened today in the Ogilvie Transportation Center (just north of the train lobby). Fresh produce, fish, smoked and aged meats, butcher (everything prepacked for now, unfortunately), Pastoral cheese, patisserie, bakers, Vietnamese and Korean restaurants and takeout, etc. in a nice space.
Lots of the venders are small and new at this, and (hopefully) the selection will build over time, but take a look and support this effort. No connections other than it’s high time, and I’d hate to loose this option.
Spend some time talking with the owner yesterday. Most of the current product is from a local polish butcher. He is hoping to bring product in from the Elburn Market and a local kosher producer as well. Didn’t see or hear anything Italian, French or southern European yet, but he had terrific looking locally produced whole, bone-in (the whole joint) smoked hams (that look like they were hung and aged as well), which he wasn’t cutting yet because he was waiting for a slicer that could cut flat around the bone. Hopefully, he will be up at full speed in a week or two.
