Quick question for you westsiders . . .

Where might you recommend to hold a ‘larger’ offline on the westside on a Thursday night - one that might get 40 - 50 folks - and one that would do it for zero or very low corkage?!?!?

What are you planning to spend food and service wise? How much glassware will you need? That is what is gonna matter to the restaurant.

$50-75 incl tax and tip would be ideal

may be able to bring our own glassware and spit buckets . . .

40-50 people? That is a tough one. For it’s hard to imagine any resto in LA that can meet those requirements unless you buy out the place.

Try Matteo’s on Westwood. They have the space, the glassware and need the business

Roberto’s suggestion is a good one.

I can’t think of anywhere else that can hold that large a group; there are smaller restaurants I can think of, but you’d probably have to rent out the entire space and that’s too $$$

What’s the goal of the dinner? Is it consumer only? From your mailing list? Potential buyers (consumer)? Trade? BBoard members? Media?

These can or cannot be used as leverage depending …

Thinking aloud and working backwards. $75 total=$60 pre-grat.=$50 assuming a $10 flat cork=$45 pre-tax

On a buy-out a place would want to either be desperate and/or get a bit more per person than their standard tab. So I’d think buy-out would have to be at a smallish, very moderate place since the 50 people then isn’t a lot of covers for the night. Tough to find.

You really need more of a non-buyout private area/room situation. The issue with that is that most private rooms aren’t that big. Matteo’s, Campagnola, Cafe del Rey, and Border Grill (iirc) have big rooms. The hotel restos, Whist, Casa del Mar, Miramar would have spaces but probably too much $. Michaels has a great patio as does Wilshire which you might take over. We did a 30 at Valentino and they can always work groups with varying menu. Pastina in westwood has always been able to give us a side of their dining room and done QPR dinners for up to 30. You could call 2117. Hideyo there has always been receptive to wine dinners. It is smallish so probably a buy-out, but he has unfortunately not been real busy lately.
Daily Grill Sa-Mo has a really big room which is often empty and also a decent sized room. Lawry’s BH has a room for about 40 that is great for wine dinners, but again will exceed your $.

You might try James Beach in Venice. They have a space called The Clubhouse in the back of the restaurant that the website says holds 35 for dinner and more for cocktails, etc. It is a very wine savvy place and “normal” corkage is only $10 I think.

Another favorite of ours is Typhoon which is located on the south side of the runways at SM Airport. Great Pan Asian food. I think they would have a space that would work for your group. Good luck!
