So I am getting over swine flu. Cant taste much, but my main drinking buddy drinks mostly huge wines which wouldnt have been enough. Howerver, his son was hypoglycemic last week and walked off. He is still to be found. He asked me to come to his house and how the hell do you say no?
2005 Boxer: Boy I could smell and taste this. Lots of black berries and booze. Good with a cold. Lots of pepper.
2006 Jaffurs Verna’s: Lots of black pepper in the nose and the palate. Sweet, ripe fruit but at first a clipped finish and later a ball of drying tannins. This needs a hell of a lot of time.
2001 MP Integrity: Darker nose with sweet fruit and a velvety texture. Lots of black cherries in nose and palate.
2007 MD Enchanted Path: Lots of red berries both in the nose and the palate. Dark cherries as well. Alcohol is certainly not hiding.
2002 CSJ CC: Mostly I could taste alcohol with a little chocolate and black fruit.
2006 Antica Terra: Huge nose of wood (vanilla) plums and dark berries. Some cola and cool fruit. The fruit is intense but not candied. Oregon and Cali love child.
2007 Ketcham: Soft PN. The nose is like a baby antica terra…same wood and cool berries but dampened. The palate is also softer and restrained. Wish I didnt have a cold.
2004 Turley Library PS: Looks like motor oil. Giant nose of black licorice, black berries, pepper. The palate was huge and thick. Lots of dark fruits and tannins. Huge wine that still needs 10 years plus. Good though.
2001 Inniskillin Ice wine: Lots of apricot baby food in the palate…some soft stone fruit on the nose. Again wished I wasnt sick.
2005 Amon Ra Godolphin: Wow nose of blue and black berries. The palate follows through with both big time fruiThat ist, weight and structure. Oak, but in a good way. Delicious.
That is all.
Hope you waited 7 days from symptom onset! Several of those wines would’ve had me wearing a garlic necklace, crucifix and sporting a spray bottle of holy water. I’ve been torn about that Antica and erring on the side of age to get the oak to integrate. I like the weight of Ketcham PNs, if not the lumber. Have some interested in Inniskillin IWs, not the sparkling I assume? Best wishes for your friend and his son.
My nose is barely there and I could smell the oak. I dont mind oak at all, but I was surprised that I could smell it so clearly. Made me wonder. Ill have to pop another when I get my sense of smell back. I would wait on it. Has stuffing, will be fine.
The ice wine was still. Ive always found them to be a steal, since you can pick them up in wine commune for under 20 bucks sometimes.
Apricot baby food. Its like condensed apricot, sweeter and more intense than apricots themselves. FWIW I love apricot baby food. I have a three year old, so I had it last about 2 years ago
Not exactly true with velvet glove, and even 05 COL and Boxer can be quite smooth at cellar temp. BEB 05 as well. Temp makes a huge difference for them. These were, however, cellar temp, and I could not taste as much fruit because of my illness so yeah, they were searing, pretty much. So was the CSJ for that matter.
Too much alcohol for you [gheyfight.gif]
I dont think anyone would argue that these are not alcoholic wines. I enjoy some of them though, even when Im not sick.
For the record, if wine didn’t make me drunk, I would drink beer instead.
