Weekend Wines: Terry Hoage, Cayuse, Pisoni

  • 2006 Terry Hoage Vineyards Grenache-Syrah The 46 - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (7/18/2009)
Decanted two hours, enjoyed over three. The thing I love about Terry’s wines is the wonderful acidity. In this bottle, the grenache lent red fruits and spiciness, while the syrah gave it richness, smoke and meaty notes. Still a little disjointed, more bottle age will certainly take care of that.
  • 2004 Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (7/17/2009)
Decanted one hour. Shared with Russell From & McPrice Myers to celebrate Russell’s birthday. This wine was beautiful, earthy, fragrant, minerally, delicious. Tremendous complexity.
  • 2005 Pisoni Pinot Noir Estate - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (7/17/2009)
Popped, decanted 30 minutes, consumed very quickly. This has really changed dramatically since my last bottle. Shows classic pinot nose, is well balanced, nuanced and structured.

Brian - Thanks for the Tasting notes, especially the Pisoni 05. Methinks that one will be the one to hold onto for another year or two as it has the structure to continue to improve. I’m planning on drinking my Pisoni 06’s earlier. What are your thoughts?
T.

It definitely has the bones to age very well. I’m going to hold off on another one for at least a year.

Haven’t tried the 06 so I can’t comment on that.

Brian,
Nice to see the Cailloux treated you well. The 04’s are drinking tremendously well right now. Complex and sultry. If you get a chance, give an 06 a run. Cheers!

The '05 Pisoni seems often to be consumed quickly, as it was in my house as well…

A great bottle.
