Week 3 Virtual Tasting for Charity - Chardonnay 12/10/25 - 12/17/25

Thanks for trying, Brian.
They all count here.
Bummer that this wasn’t ready.

When it comes to Oregon chards, I always hear the words of Marcus Goodfellow urging us to have patience.

Gaspard Brochet 333.b

2nd bottling of GB’s 333.
3 vintages - 16/17/18
3 sites - can’t remember all 3
3 varities - pinot noir, meunier, and … CHARDONNAY!

current release i believe is f in europe, e in north america so this btl has been resting for a few years. lovely maturity, overall super enjoyable… really enjoying Gaspard’s wines lately.

TN: I am smiling on the inside.

Mark in the mix with the champagne blend.
Thank you.

Would this be a grower champagne? I’m not familiar with the landscape other than the big houses.

Cam X Lot 4 Chardonnay. Lemony croissant with hint of jasmine creme brulee, long finish and beautiful texture. Pregame for our Anderson Valley visit with LOTS of Chardonnay notes coming soon.

Thanks Kha for your 2nd note in the thread. I really liked this wine as well. A tough act to follow as Cam’s 1st chard release

2018 Cakebread Chardonnay Napa Valley
Slim pickins from a restaurant wine list. This was the top chard offering at $85.
Not bad to start. Had some crispness and acidity. But fell apart quickly in the glass and became heavier and flat. Just didn’t go anywhere after that. The finish fell off quickly.

Hubert Lamy Saint Aubin 1er Les Frionnes 2021
On cork pull this is slightly reductive. Tart acid on entry—Chau called it almost sour. This is pears, lime territory rather than lemon; salinity. Subtle oak in the background. With air this fills out, on the leaner side but there’s a bit of chew. I didn’t buy much 21 white but I’d gladly drink this again.

Thank you Elliot. White Burg continues on as the people’s choice so far. Our 1st Cote de Beaune.

2022 Comte de Vogue Musigny Blanc: No, I did not drink it out of the coffee cup although that’s perfectly fair to think of me.

That could be the whole tasting note and suffice. A little extravagant, but you only turn 59 once or maybe twice. In the upper echelon of crazier wines I have ever had. Not sure I have ever tasted anything like it. Amazing aromatics of orange peel, honeysuckle, vanilla bean, sweet cream and candied citrus. Texture is incredibly rich, smooth and viscous without being overt. Smooth but in the best way possible. Amazingly interesting and intense flavors of flambéed orange, crème brûlée, Tahitian vanilla bean, lemon sorbet and a tinge of Japanese dark chocolate with candied Iyokan (a cross between a pomelo and a mandarin and I realize that is a bizarrely specific note but you can buy that actual chocolate candy from a company called Dandelion Chocolate). Long finish to say the least. Great wine. If I bothered to have a top-10 of the year I’m sure it would be on it.

Jim, joining the party in a big way. Happy 59th and thanks for sharing your celebratory bottle. Our 1st Cote de Nuits and the very rare Chardonnay from the northern Cote D’Or.

Mendocino Ridge Chardonnay anyone???

Of all the chardonnay I tasted up and down Anderson Valley, this was the best of the bunch, rivaling some of West Sonoma Coast’s finest. Lemon, white floral, some piney woodsy undertone and chiseled limestone, sea spray ish. Call it terroir or whatever, I love this. Intense concentration, crazy acid, almost Chablis like, mouthfeel warps between angular and sharp to round. Lemon curd, charred lemon and jasmine with minerality finish that kept going on and on. Absolute banger at $45. Wendy at Disco Ranch was raving about this bottle. We will be buying more in the future.

Update: I rushed back and grabbed 2 more before they close at 6. Leaving super early tomorrow for MOWE and won’t be returning until next October.

Baxter Oppenlander Chardonnay.
No hating but this drinks like a typical unoaked chardonnay, it’s yummy but I think it lacks intensity. Not really exciting so I didn’t retain anymore information.

Easy going Chardonnay, not really a big fan of the wine, probably the least interesting of the lineup I tasted. The cheese were great but the customer services were horrible.

Lowkey a bummer because I didn’t choose Willamette Valley for December trip because Tony will be paying up!!!

Today I shoveled the hell out of my driveway. Did about two inches at a time. On the 4th and final pass, I was able to get the snowblower to work. So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.

This is a 2022 Vincent Chardonnay Berserker Cuvee’. At pop and pour it was lean and a bit reluctant. After 2 hours of air, it fleshed out from the mid palate through the finish. It was almost like drinking two different wines. I think I’ll decant my next bottle for 30 mins and see what happens.

Thank you, Tony, for doing this.

I’m in the odd get up because I took this to our ballroom dance showcase this evening. Take my notes with the understanding that we had it under less than perfect conditions (room temperature and plastic cups). This is pretty classic CA chard: ripe tropical fruit, apple, with a fairly bold mineral finish. It took about 15 minutes of air to blow off a scent of toasted oak. I wish I had been able to chill this a bit; a lower temp would have pulled it together I think. Others at the showcase who tried it absolutely loved it.

Thanks for taking it easy on me, Kha. And thanks for your notes on your Anderson Valley trip. An under appreciated region.

Thank you Patrick, for participating. Oregon wines are always welcome. So many fine choices there.
