Wednesday Night Dinner - 1998 Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 2003 Courbis Cornas La Sabarotte

  • 1998 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (12/9/2009)
Popped and poured, enjoyed over 3 hours. Nose of pure funk, spice and sweet fruit. The funk notes dissipated, leaving a gorgeous wine filled with lavender, clove, celery root and bright fruit.
  • 2003 Domaine Courbis Cornas La Sabarotte - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (12/9/2009)
Decanted three hours, enjoyed over 3. Beefy, bloody, salty, minerally, ripe fruit, black pepper. Blends new world ripeness with old world structure wonderfully.

Beautiful choice in wines, Brian - both seem right up my alley…

Hope I can hold some of my CDP’s that long.

Todd,

Thanks. They were both really good. Perfect accompaniment to our dinner, which were cast iron roasted ribeye steaks with bordelaise sauce, roasted vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes with bacon. And as if the bordelaise sauce wasn’t enough, it came with a side of bearnaise sauce as well.

Sauce with a side of sauce??? And old Rhones?

Where the hell was my invite, beyotch?

Todd,

You get down to Del Mar and we’ll enjoy the same!
