In North Carolina and had one shipment of a 2003 Lynch Bages from Southern Cali. freeze and break the bottle in early Feb. Then my allotment from Soujourn shipped out Feb. 10th arrived with pushed corks, and bulging leaking capsules. Has not been a good Winter for shipping cross country Ground. My hats off to Sojourn as they are replacing mu damaged wines at their expense, no hassles.
I’m in Cleveland and can never understand why people would want wineries/retailers to try to ship in the winter (or summer, of course). I just buy throughout the year and expect to get a flood of shipments in March/April and October/November.
My Copain arrived this week and looks good. Will just shipped my RM and I am sure it will be fine although it is supposed to get cold again next week. I am not worried.
O, they will hold them for a brief period. I requested my latest purchase be held for a couple of weeks and so far have not heard they cannot. I understand their operational method and their pricing is top tier. I’m not upset but I want wine not popsicles. Granted this has been a severe winter in this area.
Same. Delivery in Charlottesville next friday.
I actually had a winery send me bottles from CA during the height of the Polar Vortex weather, and while that was perhaps not a great decision on their part, the wine arrived fine/tastes great.
Opposite problem here. All shipping roads lead to Phoenix, apparently, and it is already getting quite warm there. R-M will be going through there next week, but more concerned about the white wines we have coming at some point. Our shipping window is closing fast.
Most wineries are pretty good about this, but some of the bigger ones kind of ignore it. Club shipments go out on certain dates, and no amount of calls or notes can change it. We are just about down to our last club because of this.
Gleason said I had the palate of a Yak, perhaps I’m as dumb as one, too. I cannot figure this tool out.
So, for the geeky helpful crowd, am I ok to ship tomorrow from San Diego to Orlando? Orlando is tricky as it is starting to get warm, but the upper North and midwest still has sections below freezing. If I wait too long, it’s way too hot in FL.
I just asked for a shipping to go Monday, just wanting to make sure I’m good. The obvious route from San Diego to Orlando - through Phoenix and Dallas perhaps - seems good. Only if it ventures North to Colorado does it drop below freezing.
With the slight exception of Tuesday, Colorado is pretty safe for shipping. I had a bunch of stuff come last week and more coming this week. The transit times through the mountains are pretty short, and if your package gets stopped at a hub, it would be in Denver, probably on Wednesday, pretty ideal weather right now IMO.
