The audiophiles would argue yes, definitely.
Yep, same here, and we had it against the village Meursault of all wines. Nobody was particularly impressed and it was nothing like the 4 bottles of Coche.
I appreciate the response. I have had these wines, and while I think the Coche white is a good wine, I do not find it particularly Burgundian. A number of us had it blind last year at Blue Hill and no one thought it was Burgundy (or Chardonnay). That does not make it bad or even inferior (depending on what one wants, of course!), but it is not particularly Burgundian. I think Barraida is even less Burgundian.
I do not disagree that some Burgundy drinkers exhibit a fetish for overpriced wines verging on the point of Veblen drinking, but it is clearly an overreaction to tar all Burgundy drinkers with that brush. There are people who will wax rapturous about urine poured from a bottle of DRC, but it’s a small minded perspective to claim people are “hesitant to taste” wines that are “equally good”. Niepoort Coche has its own little cult following - no one is afraid of it, and real Burgundy drinkers are always happy to discover new and interesting wines.
