While I’ve yet to taste a mediocre Timorasso, I think a lion’s share of Gavi/Cortese is nothing but simple, fruity and somewhat neutral white that is best consumed within a year or two from the vintage. There might be an odd Gavi here or there that might make something serious, but as a grape variety (especially from the perspective of aging potential), Timorasso is on an another level if compared to Cortese.
As you might imagine, I am not talking about run-of-the-mill Gavi, but the good ones. And the good ones certainly can age. I’ve had aged classic method sparkling Gavi that was excellent, too.
