Watch out for those glass closures....

Opened a bottle of the 2008 Grey Stack Rosemary’s SB last night(great wine btw! )…and as I usually do, I ripped off the capsule, looked down at the bottle and there was NO CORK??? [shock.gif] First thing I thought was…they forgot to put a damn cork in this thing? [scratch.gif] But I quickly realized it had a glass closure, which was still inside the capsule.

This was my first time ever having a wine with a glass closure…pretty cool…but I think there should be some kind of warning for those of us who rip into their wines without paying attention!

My wife thought it was the coolest thing even…wants to keep it and use it as a stopper for other bottles? Does it work on others?

Do you like glass closures?

They are cool but you have to remember they are there. We were talking about that at a dinner with Russel Bevan himself about his new enclosure and what can happen since we are not used to them. Sure enough the bottle came to me and I attempted to pour. The glass stopper fell into my glass with a loud crash but didn’t break it thankfully. They blend in with the top of the bottle since we are not used to looking for them.

nothing like a good vino-lock to scare the crap out of people! And I have to agree on the greystack, good juice.

Cheers

I’ll confess. In the middle of a vintage, Sineann switched to a glass enclosure. They also continued to wax the bottle tops with that hard to get off red wax. After a warm up glass or two, maybe three, Carrie asked me to open a Sineann. After about three or so minutes of trying to get the cork screw twisted in, the metal cover came lose along with the wax and we discovered the glass enclosure.

I ruined the cork screw, endured several minutes of chiding before the cover came off and whenever Carrie wants a bottle of Sineann, she hands me the bottle and the bent cork screw. hitsfan

So, Randy, is there anything you are really good at, food and beverage-wise? [tease.gif] [rofl.gif]

Drinking! [bow.gif]

Yes. I keep a few around. They work on most bottles. Gerhard uses them too.

I like the glass closure that Sineann uses. I like their wine too.
I have used the glass capsule on other bottles; works great on some; so so on others. All depends upon the lip of the bottle.
