Wasserman Champagnes

I recently received an offer on a host of Wasserman imported grower champagnes. While I am a fan of grower champagnes (having enjoyed many of Mr. Thiese’s imports), I have not found success with all (even well regarded) grower champagnes. I do not like Milan NV’s (mind you, symphorine and terres de noel have been wonderful). I have enjoyed Pierre Peters vintage wines, but not the nv. Jose Dhondt’s nv (tasted about a year ago) also a disappointment.

I do like - Lallement (green and blue label), Billiot (Cuvee’s Laetitia and Julie), Vilmart, Drappier (Extra dry and Grand Sendree), Milan (symphorine and terres de noel), virtually very special club bottling I’ve had (gotourbe (yum!), hebrart (yum!)), etc.

My fundamental champagne – Krug.

So, I request advice on Ms. Wasserman’s offering – can you recommend which ones I might should buy?

Greg,

Most of what Wasserman brings in is well made and worth a try. Wasserman imports a good amount of the Champagne et Villages series and most of the wines with the “Champagne et Villages strip” are worth trying too. My favorites include:

  • Godme
  • Camille Saves
  • Bernard Girardin
  • Dhondt’s 2002 (very hard to find now; other bottlings haven’t been at the same level IMO); the Rose isn’t my favorite, but it is worth a try.

There are probably a few more, but these are the first ones that pop to mind and I also will openly admit that I don’t know exactly what Wasserman currently brings in as I can’t recall ever being shown an accurate list.

More praise for Camille Saves. Their rose is the best on the market for my money.
What brad said about the 02 Dhondt.
Gobillard makes good stuff but is steep in price for the quality IMO.
As Roberto suggested, Carré Guébels has been a recent discovery for me though I don’t see it on shelves a lot.
