Washington, DC

It does look great. Taking my dad to tea at The Willard the next day, so can’t make it too crazy!

Do you know if having a reservation at minibar eases entrance to barmini? Or entirely separate booking?

I think technically they are separate. I’ve never had a problem getting a seat on a weekday. I’m there (barmini, not minibar…) twice a month.
They have a great a la carte drinks menu as well (including the drinks on the “tasting menu”), you don’t have to do the full omakase.

Thanks, we are going on a Friday and Open Table shows no seats for after dinner. So I might email minibar to see if they can do anything. Can’t hurt.

Friday Labor Day definitely will be busier than usual. OpenTable normally only lists 2 “seatings” but they are flexible if you contact them directly.
I’ll just miss you guys in DC, I fly in on the 8th.

Thanks and sorry to miss you. I’ll just have to drop your name and we are sure to get in

I messaged them.

The new CDC at minibar has done some great work there in the last two years or so since Chef Sara left. I thought the previous version of minibar was a bit stale and focused more on style over substance, but went recently in the Spring after my friend became one of the somms there and thought it was noticeably improved.

They start you in barmini nowadays, so you’ll get to experience the space a little bit before moving to main minibar room.

Now I am even more excited.

“Initiative 86, if approved by voters, would prohibit the sale of foie gras produced through force-feeding in the District”

DC looks set to ban foie gras in november, but I honestly can’t remember that many places that have served it over the last few years? I think albi and maybe jont are the two places I’ve had it on a tasting menu of recent-ish memory. Seems kind of odd given that it’s not exactly an every day ingredient.

Are there farms in the District?

Not that I know of, but I doubt it. I’m not sure the initiative will define force-feeding either, so it will be confusing as to what counts or doesn’t count.
